Is it worth it?

Looking to trade my 2000 5.4l 2wd X with 255k miles for a 2004 6.0l 4x4 with 230k miles. The difference is $3500.

I is the 6.0, 4x4, and 4 years newer worth the $3500?

Thanks

I think that depends on what you want, and the condition of the vehicles. Once they get that old, it really depends on how well the owner took care of them. The diesel and the 4x4 are going to add a lot more maintenance costs than your current vehicle. But, they could be a lot of fun as well! I love my 7.3 diesel. I have a DP Tuner on it, and it smokes. The 4x4 is awesome...I take it off-road as much as I can. But, I will say I bought mine with 168K on it, and it was not well taken care of, and I had to invest a lot to get it where I want it. Now that it is there, I am very happy with it.

I would say that if the 04' has had the EGR cooler and oil cooler issues fixed then yes it would be worth it.

It doesn't cost $3500 to get the EGR Cooler delete mod done and afterwards the seperation of worth would be much more significant than $3500. Just make sure the headgaskets are leaking or anything.

I would say it's worth it. If it made it to 235k, that 6.0 must've been 'fixed' via the various mods required... 4x4 alone is worth it IMO. And the power difference between the 6.0 and the v10 is huge, let alone the 5.4...

Sorry I wasn't complete with my post by saying the EGR and oil cooler issues had been addressed that meant the headgaskets had been replaced or weren't leaking. Also make sure it doesn't need any injectors. My last 2 6.0's both needed injectors at one point or another. I would also say being 4wd is worth atlas $2000 so the diesel and years are worth the rest.

Great Information

Thank you all for the great information.

Is there anything else that needs to be addressed when purchasing an EX with the 6.0? I am leery having read some of the 6.0 horror stories here and other places on the web.

Thanks,
ssolid

If it made 230k miles, odds are it was a good one. Have a good diesel mechinic check it out.
