I have an engine knock and am looking at replacing my engine or rebuilding it, whichever is cheaper. I have had a couple of master mechanics look and listen to my engine and they said rebuild or replace. I have a 1990 F250 with a 351 Windsor. I have found a 1990 E150 with a 351 Windsor short block. I would like to know if these engines are interchangeable without any sort of modification. I can do just about any work that has to be done to my truck, but I don't have any knowledge about engines. I would like to do an engine swap but if there would end up being a lot of hassle with swapping these engines I'll just do a rebuild. I would like to thank anyone that takes the time to read this or offers up any information in advance, any information is better than having nothing.
What is the difference between the two engines? I figured that since it was a Windsor "Short Block" that it was shorter or something. I asked a couple friends that know more on the subject but they couldn't tell me.
Shortblock is just the block and rotating assembly, Longblock is that plus heads. What you need for an easy swap is a complete running EFI 5.8 engine and it doesn't matter what late model truck it comes from they are all compatable with your truck, just be sure to use the accessory brackets and wiring from yours and none of that from the donor.
