I was at Kunsan AFB, then hopped up to Osan AFB (just a bit outside Seoul) for a little bit before returning. Time flies when you're havin fun.
Well I guess today will be the day they call me and give it to me without lube. I have a feeling that the three trips I made there, talking to the mechanics and finding that broken gasket is going to get brought up if the bill is high. I'm still debating on calling Ford Corporate, sending them the TSB and pictures then the quote that these guys gave me. It's a complete ripoff and these shops are still just shotgunning HPOP's for leaks because there's 1 seal that's "un-servicable" what a crappy loophole, worse than a politician.......
I hear ya, it sometimes can be difficult to find a shop that has someone with top notch experience/skills with the 7.3L. One thing you can take away from this whole experience is ask here first - if this crew can't help you fix it they will tell you who can and if you do have to go to the dealer than you will go as a well informed customer.
So the tech called again and apparently it is the "non-servicable" plug seal. The one that they say can't be ordered and that I still need to order a new HPOP. I know I can get one from the Diesel "O" rings site, but my predicament is that it's at the Ford dealer right now with the pump still off.
Is there really no part number for just the seal that they can get? If not I'm just going to have them put it back together and I'll bring it home and do it myself.
tell them to put it back together and get in the parking lot and you will fix it yourself in the parking lot. Order the parts from Dieselorings and you will have them in two days.
That is what I would do.
You have delt with them enough and now it is time to do what you know is right. It is an easy fit and if you have any questions Bob (Dieselorings) will walk you through it or get back here and someone else will.
OK Robin, what's wrong with with my plug kit? It's halve the price of International's, made of 303 Stainless instead of soft steel .... and BTW, it's LocTite 680 ... LOL
As Bob is alluding to, our trucks 7.3s are International engines labled 444E.
International may have a part # for the 'Ford' not serviceable plug? But you must tell 'International' that your truck IS AN International...
Get your parts form Bob, you will get personal service from purchase until after instulation and beyond from him and everyone here.
They probably already have the truck sitting in the lot as most dealers can not afford to tie up a service bay while the customer decides what to do.
What you are experiencing is exactly why the leaking plug is called the "non-serviceable plug". Dealers do not have access to a Ford repair part nor do they have the reference materials to tell them how to repair it. Since they must guarantee their work, for the most part, they will not touch an aftermarket part or an International labeled part for that matter.
It is CRITICAL that the LocTite that is applied to the new plug be allowed to cure for 24 hours, again dealers can not tie up their service bay for that long.
If your truck is not in the service bay, I would try to get the HPOP from them, do the repair and return it to them and have them re-install it at that time.

Called them and are having them put it back together I live about two miles from the dealer so I'll just drive it back to the house order the parts and get it all done. Thanks again guys I'll order up the stuff tonight.
I suggest you get Bob's number off his Dieselorings site and call him to order. This will ensure you get all you will need to do the job right, plus he will give you some great advice.
order the fuel drain valve o-rings also, while you are at it. takes 10-15 minutes to change out and are easy and cheap to do. The new fuels are hard on the original seals and will develope a leak that goes down the tube or into the valley.
I would still order these as your already in there beside it and it will be one less worry down the road.
I just ordered the whole fuel bowl o-ring kit from Bob and an looking forward to that as a weekend project.
Bob left a voicemail with ya to get the stuff ordered up thanks all for leading me in the right direction. I'll do like you guys said and get everything I need while it's off (fuel and HPOP seals).
I did want to give a pat on the back for this dealership, I called them back and said that I would just get the parts from Bob and do it myself but then they said they'd wait until I get the parts and then re-assemble it since it's already off the motor. I have to say that is a very respectable thing to do especially since my truck is taking up a stall. In the meantime they were going to do two recalls one for the camshaft position sensor and another one (can't remember which one) but that's a really nice action on their part.
