my brother 05 f-150 5.4 is doing something weird, everytime he gets into it at almost WOT or WOT the engine light comes on and the truck loses all power. As soon as you let up on it the engine light goes away and it goes back to normal. it was just in to have the throttle body replaced and the tech said he drove it and it didnt do what we told him. well one week later it did it again so i had him take me for a ride and we got onto the highway he stomped on it and the light came on and the motor lost everything. I allready replaced the fuel filter and air filter, it just had a new throttle body installed what could be causing this?
1-yes it was doing it before the new throttle body was put in
2-the dealer he bought it at put the throttle body in
3-no everytime he tells me about it i hook up my sct programmer and scan his truck and no codes show up, whatever it is isnt bad enough to stay in the truck i suppose so thats why the light goes out?
he may have to get it to do it and stay on it till it throws a code and stores it. it could be a few things like plugs, coils, or bad injector but its all guesses without a code. mine did that but stored a misfire code and and new plugs fixed it.
If it's only happening at WOT, he might have a wiring problem. Check all the wiring harnesses around the engine compartment. You might have a harness thats been rubbing, and on WOT the engine torques enough to either open or ground a wire. Check the passenger side wiring harness at the rear of the head. There is a main engine harness that runs next to an A/C line, I've seen the protective liner around this harness rub through and ground wires. Also check on top of the trans for any wires rubbing on mounts or brackets.
ill check the wires then. its strange how he had the throttle body changed at the dealer and the tech said he "test drove it" and the engine lite didn't come on, yet he picks it up jumps on it and the light comes right on??
