I have a 2000 f250, 5 speed. I use my e-brake everytime I park it. I purchaced the truck used in 05 and ever since I pulled it of the lot the e-brake pedal, when released, releases so fast and hard It feels like it is going to break through the dash board. I have replaced the pedal assembly 3 times and it just happened again yesterday. After replacing the pedal the second time I have been letting the pedal up slowly with my foot, which seems to help.
I am just wondering if this is a common problem or if anyone my know of a cheaper fix. I really don't want to spend another $100 plus dollars on a new one, again.
Im confused... why did you replace it? Did something actually break because it returns so fast? It sounds like it is working correctly to me. If it kicks up too fast just slow it down with your foot like you said.
Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well. The assembly actually breaks in one form or another. The first two times the gear that keeps the pedal ingaged stripped out this time a rivet that holds the main locking gear to the foot pedal broke off and then busted the spring. So of course another $136 so I can park the truck safely. I really love this truck and it has done everything I ask of it and more. I'm just getting pissed off about this e-brake. and I really can't figure out what I might be doing wrong. Thank you for your responses. Steve
How hard is it to push down?
I would start by visually inspecting the entire parking brake cable from pedal to wheel. Sounds like something causing it to bind and putting more pressure on the assembly than it can handle.
I agree with BillyBob69; there must be something wrong. I had a 2000 F250 6spd manual and used the ebrake evertime I got out of the truck and never had any problems with it at all in 10 years of use.
