Great, thanks guys! I like to hear someone else uses the same deal, I just wish I knew exactly what tunes where on it and wish I could change the shift points. I used to run the chip on the middle setting too, and it makes the truck shift better through the gears, BUT it makes it shift much worse into overdrive for some reason (mostly when I'm light on the throttle which causes it to shift into overdrive at 45mph instead of 50/55 mph). If I have the chip on, and I accelerate in a "light on the throttle" way, it shifts into 4th at 42mph and OD at 43/44mph, this makes for a rough couple seconds and a hard overdrive shift when it does this. With the chip off it shifts a little harder 1st-4th but is usually a lot more friendly when going into OD...
I know the tranny needs a rebuild (147+K miles stock tranny&TC thats been through a lot), so I'm going to wait until thats done before getting the chip looked at.
Badhabit1- when you run your chip at the middle setting does it ever act funny going into OD like I explain above? Mostly I mean does it shift into 4th then IMMIDIATELY shift into OD right after if your driving "light on the throttle"? I'm just cerious if its tranny fault or a bad tune...either way I have to rebuild my transmission so the answer doesn't really matter but I'm cerious, thanks again for all the info guys!
EDIT: I have one more quick question about these chips, specificly this chip Badhabit1, I can't switch the settings with the truck running, I have to turn in off, switch it, then back on...is this how they all are? I see a lot of advertising for "on the fly", but mine will kill the truck if switched while running...
DP Tuners are change on the fly. Just let off the throttle so there is no load, (coasting), switch to the the desired setting, wait til a little dot on the display to go away, (about 1 second), then away you go.
Yea, I think mine may be shifting into overdrive similiar to you. Pretty firm then torque converter lockup very quickly thereafter. Gonna have to go drive it some at those speeds in stock setting to see if any difference. I can switch between tunes on the fly. Go from stock to middle setting, while accelerating, without changing the throttle position and it's like being pushed in the back! By the way, 4th gear is overdrive. I would very much like a DP tune, but money is tight and honestly I feel these tunes are not bad. As good as dp's? no. But with the middle tune, I can hammer it and EGT's don't get very high. Never seen 1200. After a fast accel. from a light, I can look at gauge and maybe see 900. When it's cold out and just running errands(gentle driving), when I get home and put it in park my EGT's are 375 to 400. Let it idle for 30 seconds, temp falls under 350 and shut her down!
Thanks for the information. It must be very similar but not the same, mine won't change "on the fly". I have never tried doing it while I'm driving down the road, but when I'm sitting at an idle it will just die if switched, which makes me not even think about trying while I'm driving it down the road. And ya I meant *4th (OD) at 42 and TC at 44/45* ALTHOUGH its weird because it seems the TC locks up (real smooth shift feel) at the 41/42mph mark and THEN seems to come OD at 44/45, but I know that can't be right, that last shift (the hard one) must be the TC lock up right? I hear you can have your PCM updated and it helps with the TC lockup and overall shifting...although the post I read said if you have a chip it will wipe out your tunes and therfor have to have it re tuned...I will wait until I'm doing that anyways before I get that done.
Thanks again for all the info!
