I have recently, four months ago, purchased a 2001 F-250 7.3l psd and am on the hunt to find out some more information on it. Now I know that the truck is chipped and has a 4" exhaust. The chip wasn't a big selling point so I wasn't worried about the salesman not knowing exactally what it was. I'm assuming that the truck is using Banks products as it has the Banks power stickers on it. I've had a friend use his reader to try and help me out but all he got from it was a message stating "high performance installed". Now from what I understand is that on my year and model of truck you don't actually replace the chip, you re-program it. Is this correct? So I can't just look and see if it's got another chip. What I'm ultimately trying to determine is what program the truck is running. It runs great and everything I'd just to know exactally what is going on under the hood. Are there any simple ways to determine this?
You have an aftermarket performance chip installed. If you pull the PCM out and take the lid off you will see it.
Someone may have used a tuner to reprogram your stock chip.To do this a tuner removes the stock program and stores it, then gives you the new program. If that is the case then you may want to track down the previous owner and see if you can find your stock program. If you have a friend with a tuner you may want to see if they can read your program and figure out what you have, but it could be any brand.
