I called a few dealers and sent them an email with what I was looking for in an ordered truck today. Most came back with a price (MSRP) that was very close to the Ford website. One dealer came back at $3400 more than the Ford website. We went through the options and he made it clear to me that he felt he was right and the website was wrong. He went so far as to say that he's often found that it's wrong. I can see $500, but $3400?
just call around and see if they will sell you a truck at invoice, which they will, then call the dealer of your choice, ask for a salesman and say the guys across town will sell me a truck at invoice price, what can you guys do if any to better that?? the dealer I called said they have a $500 price match guarantee so they said they would do $500 under invoice. I said ok.
you can check the invoice price on edmunds.com to make sure the numbers are right. they usually leave out the FDAF which is about $680 or so. then add incentives on to it from there.
I said ok here are the terms I will agree to, 500 below invoice then incentives applied after that. this was wrote down by hand on the invoice sheet the dealer made up after I checked all the options were correct. I signed it they signed it. I took a copy.
when I came back to pick up the truck the incentives had jumpped nearly 2k, so I got that extra off. they were honest and fair wilth me and didn't try to pull any shanigans in when I came to pick up the truck, which was surprising and nice for a change.
I became so annoyed with the build it site I gave up. I ended up buying mine off the lot.
So you had a similar experience with pricing being way off?
Clarification:
I just want to be sure I wrote this so that it can be understood. I haven't gotten to pricing. I fully expect to pay well under invoice..that's a given. What I need is to have an apples to apples comparison. I can't do that if one dealer claims that the sticker price is $3400 higher than what Ford's website says it is. I'm just wondering if Ford's website is really that far off? The only thing I could think of that wasn't listed on the website was advertising and fuel cost. Those together are around $850 a far cry from $3400

my dealer in Oregon (no state tax so its great for exports)is 6500 below the MRSP on the website. I am buying in the USA as the Canadian pricing is out of this world. I'm not sure if we are permitted to give names on the forum or I would put in a good word for him.
well, I can tell you my experience with the Canadian ford site. I was having problems with the price not being correct and fluxuating.
But when I went to the summery page, I noticed that I had previously filled in my downpayment option of $4000, Every time I went back to the site, it automatically was giving me a truck price $4000 less than actual cost. Once I removed any numbers from the trade-in and down payment fields, the price was bang on to what the sticker price is.
When I built the truck online, the web price was the same as the sticker on a similar truck on the lot.
Am I understanding that he didn't want to go down from the sticker MSRP Price???
I'm in the process of dealing with a Canadian dealership now and he took 19% off the top instantly, which was $14,500 off without any negotiations. Put that price is up here in Canada $77,500 down to $63,000 frieght included. I've heard some US buyers were getting prices from $9,000 to $11,000 off suggested retail.
I'm asking for a couple extras to be thrown it before I say yes to my offer. I hope to settle it this week.

Thanks for the input. I just think this dealer wasn't interested in ordering a truck for me. I don't understand it as they're a little, family owned shop that's been there for a very long time, but he did ask me a few times if I was going to be pricing a truck at the other, much larger Ford dealer here so maybe he just figured he'd lost the deal before he started. They did come off MSRP, but not nearly enough to be competitive with other dealers in the area.
The website pricing compares very closely to the other dealers list prices...just not this one dealer....oh well...I scratched them off the list.
What about obtaining an X Plan Pin number, then order from whomever wants your business? Or if the dealer can find the truck you want, less waiting, even better. You save a bunch with the x plan and don't have to play the haggle game.
The ford build website has always been accurate to the (MSRP) penny for me. We bought two new 2011 Fords this year, and each time I used that site extensively. The one on edmunds.com was inaccurate, since option package prices tend to change a bit throughout the year. I think edmunds just doesn't get the updates in a timely manner.
That said, if the dealer is quoting you a price *over* the MSRP you get from the Ford site, it's time to look elsewhere.

My .02.
Thanks...I do have an X plan PIN, but it's been my experience that you can often get a better deal than X plan pricing with a little effort. Having it available to me does offer some comfort!
When I bought my truck in October I found the Ford website to be dead accurate when it came to MSRP pricing. However the website does not list every option available. For example I did not know you could get all terrain tires on the dually. The website only listed all season tires. The dealer ordering guide shows that you can get all terrain tires with the dually.
