thanks I have looked there but I'm not sure what the second set of numbers mean ? It looks like the only way to be sure is to pull a head off and check the bore.
I do know about the 5-bolt housing I was lucky enough to get two good trannys with it and located a bell housing yesterday.
I am planning on putting this in a 1927 T roadster pick-up but would like to be able to run a 5-speed behind it.
So for now I am gathering info if anyone knows a tranny combo that will work let me know.
Thanks
Please post the second set of numbers. They probably are a casting date code.
With a five bolt bellhousing you will have difficulty with a five speed transmission. A toploader, toploader overdrive or three speed electric overdrive will fit up but an adaptor will probably need to be made to suit the five bolt bellhousing to a five speed.
Here is a break down on what the numbers/letters mean.
Breaking down the Ford casting number
Table 1.3
C9AE-9510-M
Decade alpha
B = 50's C = 60's D = 70's E = 80's
C9AE-9510-M
Year numeric
9 = 9th year of the decade
C9AE-9510-M
Model design alphanumeric
A = Full size ford (see table 2.1 for more)
C9AE-9510-M
Engineered component alpha
E = Engine (see table 2.2 for more)
C9AE-9510-M
Basic Part number, mostly numeric between 4 and 6 digits,
9510 = carburetor (see table 2.3 for more)
C9AE-9510-M
Engineering version alphanumeric (up to 3 digits but mostly single alpha digit)
M = 13th version of C9AF-9510 carburetor
Also check with the classic Mustang suppliers, they have an adapter to adapt a T5 to your bellhousing.
Here's the block casting number rundown. The C4OE-6015-E marked cylinder block superseded the C4OE-6015-B late in 1964. The "E" block was also the service replacement block after its introduction.
You should only get the adapter since you will have to fab up a Xmission crossmember. Laurel Mountain Mustang list it as part # TRA-645-423 Adapter Plate. At CJ Pony Parts the Part Number: T5AP1. Hope this helps.
I went back and reread this thread and am not sure if you have a standard 5 bolt bellhousing or not. If you don't have one you might look on ebay, I see them there occasionally. I might have one if I ever decide which direction I want to go with my 63 Comet (260/4speed). Am thinking about a 5.0 FI/5speed.
