floor shifter

i ahve a auto from a 84 f250 2wd. i want to know how to convert to the floor shifters? i dont really want to buy one i want to like make one cuz this tranny aint going into a truck

also i have us gear venders so does this afect my tranny to go to a floor shifter?

That Hurst is a cable-shift setup, most aftermarket shifters are. I would suggest that you look into Lokar shifters, they have cable-shifts too but they also make some real nice transmission-mounted solid-linkage shifters - something like that wouldn't be too hard to fabricate.

i kinda figured it wouldnt be hard to fab somehting up. i just dont know how the linkage works, i am trying to get a pic of how these r ran ather by wires or like a soild link pipe... does anyone have pic of how these things work? i will be doign it to a c6 auto with a 6.9l turbo

Cable-shift, means they got a flexible steel cable that runs from the shifter, through a hole in the floor pan, and then loop to the lever on the side of the transmission. There is a bracket that bolts through two of the trans pan bolts to hold the end of the cable sheathing, then there is usually a lever that you replace the factory one with and that the cable itself attaches to. The factory shift lever is rarely of proper length to work with the throw of an aftermarket shifter, tho I suppose it could be modified accordingly. Actually I have this very idea for my truck, since there are very few floor shifters that work with the E4OD transmission, it would only take a few simple measurements to figure out the proper lever length for whatever shifter I pick...
