Hi first post love the site! Problem is the tach is not accurate it reads at 6k at full throttle... ( 7.5l/E4od) Plus at times it seems to read normal but then jumps 2-3k rpm? Curious on what to look for? Thanks in advance!
If the truck is the one in your profile I would say you will need another tach. You can pull one from a JY cluster and replace the tach into your present cluster.
redlightning93 thanks for the response, Yes it is the stock cluster in a 94 f350 XLT CC/LB... With having 215k miles, I would assume its just age lol. You said pull one from a YJ(JEEP)?
Thanks again...
No, we use a lot of abbreviations here so JY, meaning Junk Yard, is what I was suggesting to you. There are lots of clusters in these yards and you will have to pull a complete cluster and then remove the tach and replace yours. It is easy after you pull the cluster. Just remove the clear lens and the gages are in three sections. Speedometer is one separate section and will need to be removed first so you can get the tach out. They have pins that push through the rear circuit board so you will need to pry them out gently to prevent damage. I recommend replacing all your indicator bulbs while you have the cluster out to prevent you from having to take it out again in the future.
Here are a couple of pictures showing the cluster removed. Notice the rear showing the black bulb holders. They just turn and come right out so you can replace the bulbs. Good luck to you.
