Zf shift points

I've had my zf in for 6-7 months now. It wasn't too hard to find the shift points for power and speed but have there been any studies done that verify the sweet spots when unloaded for economy?

No tests that I'm aware of... Where are you shifting driving normal right now? Normally I shift about 2500 RPM, but when I'm purposely trying to get good mileage I will shift lower, like around 2200 RPM.

same here. Except I have to keep the temp in mind. I don't have any synchros and drive it like a big truck. Cold I have to shift a little sooner.

Dan, you pulled the syncro's? or they worn out?

I shift anywhere from 1200 to 2k.

Lots of time's i'll just **** 2nd 3rd 5th.
rarely use 4th. Sometimes i'll skip 3rd too.

I found that when I keep the RPM a little higher on the shift points, I get a touch better mileage since it's not lugging after the shift..

William, why do you skip gears? I've done it on dynos several times when we are in a hurry, but I never do it on the street b/c it lugs too much and kills my mileage.

I never have any lugging issues.

I'll shift 2nd to 3rd at about 1500-1800, and then shift to 5th at about 2200.
Which drops you back down to 1500ish.

Well, I guess I might be a little more in a hurry than most too. I like to be able to be under boost anytime I need it. LOL. If your light on the go pedal it won't lug. I shift closer to around 1500 until oil temp gets pretty warm(around 150*), then I will let the RPM get higher for shifts.

I drive like an old man, Till i see somebody who thinks their truck is awesome.
Then I show them otherwise.

Gotta be careful with some of these new trucks though.
I'd have been okay with more oil, but this old guy whooped me in a newer gasser chevy.
But those suckers come with like 380 hp from the factory.
I didn't downshift though, that was my mistake.

I normally shift between 18-2200ish depending on mood. I still have idiot gauges and stock sticks too so I just try to keep it down and hope that I'm not making much boost. I just got a nice raise though so hopefully I'll change that soon

Personally, I think there is a "feel" to shifting.
Maybe it comes from your mood.

Then again, when I give er the go pedal and slam in the clutch, I get a nice BANG when everything in the drive train unwinds and makes the dash clunk.
haha.
I think I have a bad motor mount.

Anyways, I just Feel where I need to shift.
Plus I watch for where the vehicle shifts the best vs drop in RPM's and such.
If you know how much each gear does at certian speeds....
bah, i'm taking it to geek levels.

Just shift where it feels best.

That's cool. I mean I can shift fine I just didn't know if there was an rpm that had shown best for econo.
