thanks Fordman for the info....I'm putting bucket seats in mine so I hope to avoid the location issues....but we'll see once the trani is up in there....
Make sure that your shifter is fully compatable with the T-10 since the reverse lever is back on the tail case.

another shifter question

Second, you may want to mock everything in there to see where your shifter needs to be. In the case of my F-1, stock style shifters would not work without major cab modifications, which was not high on my list of priorities. You may end up having to get a universal style 4-speed shifter and calculate lengths of your shift linkage to work. Typically the shifters were mounted further back on the tail shaft, in my case it came out under the bench. I lucked out and found a shifter for a van that bolts up to my case instead of the tail shaft. I am not sure if something like that would work for you or not. I am still looking for a Hurst style shifter to replace my sloppy FoMoCo shifter. People joke that my truck shifts more like a Kenworth than a Ford!
So any info on that van shifter you found? It's lookin like I might need one.

From what I can tell, it was a 2-year deal, '78 and '79...maybe '80, but I am not sure how long they used the SMOD in vans. I will try to get some pictures of it up here so you can check it out. I do know that Hurst quit making it a year or so ago.

It uses the top two bolts from the case to the tail shaft to mount the bracket, the shifter itself mounts to the drivers side. The shifter itself is sloppy and loose...not the best available IMO. If I could find a Hurst shifter that would work without major modification, I would make the bracket and use a Hurst. I don't have a lot of experiance with the T-10, nor do I pretend to, so I am not sure if this would work on your setup or not. What I do know is I fell into this van shifter, fortunately it worked. I paid $20 for the shifter from a friend.

You can kinda see it here...I will see if I can get something better.

I pulled a SMOD out of a 80 van, so I know they were used in that year too.

Who has high speed cable? - I have a 58 Merc Car Group 6 Maintenance Manual - It includes the 2.77, 3.03, Full Syncro 4Spd and the BW 3 Spd OD Trans - It will be over 50 Megs in several PDF files.
PM me an e-mail address and I'll mail them out.
