Question Craftsman SnowThrower Questions 247.866700 - Drive Wheels

I have an older Craftsman snowthrower (8HP, 26", Model 247.866700). I recently hit a root and the drive wheels stopped turning. I checked all the belt and they are OK. When the drive handle is pulled, the drive pulley is turning and the shaft into the gear box is turning. However, the drive wheels will not turn. Is there a sheer pin or something similar that I can check to see why this is not engaging?

Any help would be appreciated. I shoveled my large driveway by hand and am hurting. Thanks,

John in Augusta ME

Don't know, but you might be able to get a manual at sears.com - or even look at the parts diagrams on line.

You go down to replacement parts, and it will send you to parts direct.

I tried the model number you listed, but they claimed not to have it. You might have it a little wrong. They have some help for finding the model number.

--Also,

I have a Sears, and on mine the drive is done by one wheel with a rubber rim that presses on another one at a right angle to it. Shifting gears just moves the rubber wheel across the other one so that it changes the circumference that it's driving.

On mine, you just take off the bottom plate and you can see the fine elegant drive mechanism.

good luck,

hj

Mine has shear pins at the wheels. But I have had good luck getting manuals and parts from sears.com.
