I took my hood chrome to Augusta Ga. and had it redone. I am very pleased with it. The handle has the end cut off because it is going to be stationary in the hood and not used for the latch release.
oooooh purty , shiny stuff .............. checked with a plater once on some stuff including the grille shell and rechroming some things ... i walked away in shock . maybe i just live in the past , but i spent less than what they wanted for the grille , chroming a bunch of stuff on a 75 gremmie i had with a hopped up 252 in it ...................... 1400 for the grille and it dont need anything other than a good cleaning by me before it goes .
I'm not sure if your chrome guy told you this or not - mine did. Before you install it, if you hit the back with clear KRYLON, it really helps curb any rusting. He specifically mentioned Krylon and nothing else, I guess it's quite a bit harder chemically than the other clear finishes.
Isn't it nice opening a box of newly re-chromed parts? I had various emblems, dash trim, and the grille teeth on my '51 done, and when the UPS man brought it back, it was better than Christmas morning!
$200. My buddy sent his chrome to a facility that does Harley Davidson chrome. They screwed it up by eating holes in all the pieces. It is off of a 1959 Apache 3100. I took it to the shop in Augusta to let Joe look at it and he said he could repair the holes and rechrome it but it would be very expensive. He also said he could have saved it if he had it before.
