I HAVE A 84 F150 WITH THE FEED BACK SYSTEM. THE CARB HAS BEEN REMOVED AND I WANT TO LOOSE THE COMPUTER. I WAS LOOKING AT A HEI DIZZY BUT IT ENDED UP BEING FOR A 302. I WANT TO FIND A CHEAP WAY TO GET THE TRUCK RUNNING BETTER. THINKING ABOUT A DIZZY OFF OF AN OLDER TRUCK. WHAT ALL DO I NEED TO CONVERT THIS AND HOW EASY WOULD IT BE? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.
THANKS. ANOTHER ? DO YOU HAVE TO USE THE WIRING FROM A 300? I HAVE A 1980 F150 WITH A 351W AND I WAS GOING TO PULL THAT MOTOR AND PUT IT IN MY 49 F3 AND CHANGE THAT TO HEI SO I DONT NEED THE WIRING/OR MODULE FROM THAT MOTOR WOULD IT WORK ON THE DSII DIZZY
((Please don't type in all CAPS, it makes it difficult to read.))
To remove the feedback system, you will need to pretty much remove anything and everything under the hood that has to do with the distributor, coil, carburetor, etc. Remove the computer from inside the truck and pull the massive plug of wires out of the firewall that tie into the computer (NOT the wiring harness above the driver's side wheel well). Remove the vacuum lines and wires that tie in with the solenoids that are attached to the rear of the valve cover. Unplug and remove all the wires from the wiring harness.
What you'll need to replace it:
Non-feedback carburetor
Duraspark II ignition module
Duraspark II distributor
Duraspark II coil
Coil to distributor wire (the wire for the feedback setup won't work as it has two identical ends).
The ignition module will plug right in to the wiring harness on the driver's side fender. The bolt holes for it should already be drilled into the wheel well.
Connect the plugs from the ignition module to the distributor and coil.
Run a vacuum line from the ported vacuum on the carburetor to the vacuum advance canister on the distributor.
Be sure there aren't any open vacuum ports that'll cause vacuum leaks.
That's the basics of it. There may be other small steps that you'll need to figure out like new vacuum line routing, how to install an distributor and set the timing, etc.
