im looking at buying this 95 F250 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel with 230k miles. 4WD, SRW upgraded hpop this guy says that it cranks over just fine but no start im going to look at it soon and was wondering something to look at because i don't wanna get taken on this I have been loking for one for awhile.
Well i am just going to look he wants 1500 but not running he ain't gonna get that but just some things to look for hell if i can figure it out then i could get a hell of a deal real quick i got and OBD reader?
Fuel pressure,see if smoke is coming out of the tail pipe when cranking,RPM jumping while cranking,Does wait to start light come on,if it has a chip it could have come lose,IPR could be stuck,ICP could be bad the list could go on and on we really would need mor info to try and hel you better
For 1500 I would probably just buy it on the spot depending on what it looked like, but thats just me I already have my daily driver PS. Might be able to get it running for really cheap, or at least have a cheap project to build at your convience
the guy has a new bed to go with it so im still not sure like i said not buying with out seeing i sent the guy an email and im going to give him a call tomorrow because i am not wasting my time driving down there and i don't wanna wate his time to wait for me to get there and say naw man im good.
If you don't have room at home for it then that's a problem. Or maybe a friends house. In other words, that would be a steal if it runs or not. The injectors alone are worth half the whole truck.
so the only problem mechanically is it wont start right? might be something as simple as a cps (cam position sensor) $25 part from international. and im withe the rest of the guys here i would probably buy it hope its something simple. a lot of little things on these trucks wont make them start. mostly sensors and a few fuses. i bought my truck for 3k wouuldnt start for hell, had really bad breakes front and back, every filter was jet black and so were the fluids. but about 2k or less in service and mods later she was running like a champ. wel worth every penny.
Check for:
* Wait to Start light
* Tach needle movement while cranking
* White smoke while cranking
Nature (and seriousness) of the no-start can be narrowed down by observing the above.
so ideally what is the cause of each of your problems and if i can get her started imma drive her home. I figured i'd take a can of ether just in case i know to disable the glow plugs i've had a couple diesels but the last one was a gutless 6.2... I know a few basics but from my understanding they are a lil bit more involved than a gasser.
More then likely if this was on Craigslist for 1500.00 its sold withen a couple hours for that price, I bought a 2000 f-550 7.3 for 2000.00 on CL a couple weeks ago the guy posted it at 8 at night i saw it almost right after he posted it emailed him and got his address and met him there at 8 in morning. I was the first to see it and bought it. But over the course of the night he got over 35 emails and 2 other people were on there way to look at it that he had to call and tell them that it was sold, They were none to happy. No 4x4 powerstoke is gonna stay around for 1500, unless it was rolled down a mountain and caught on fire.
i just missed 1 up here like that. had a bad trans. he never said it wa a diesel or 4x4in the add. started at $2500 was down 2 $800 b4 he put pics on. it was a 95 f250 ext powerstroke 4x4 w bad trans. uhggg. missed it by minutes
