F1 Rear window pattern

I'm having glass cut locally for the rear of my 48 F1. I made a cardboard pattern of the opening, and will take the rubber gasket so the glass cutter can see how much smaller than the opening he must make the glass to allow for the thickness of the gasket. Upon examinination of the gasket, it looks like the glass doesn't sit IN the cab opening, but slighly forward of the opening, and is the same size. Anyone have more info on this?

That is correct. The glass sits inside the cab from the pinchweld, and the lip on the gasket fits over the pinchweld to hold the glass/rubber assembly in place. You really need a tracing of a back glass to get the proper size. Trying to guess like you're doing is only going to end up in frustration, and maybe broken windows. I have one or two OEM back glasses and could make a tracing for you, but it'll be this weekend before I could get one done and have one in the mail for you, if you don't mind waiting.

Wayne, do you have back glass for an early, small window F1? Your signature says you have a 52 with the later, big glass. If you've got it, I'd be interested. Thanks.

Hi Rusty, Personally, I'd be inclined to buy the front and rear windshields from a place that has the templates. Your local shop can probably buy the template, but probably doesn't want to unless you'll pay. If the glass isn't just right it is likely to leak. Side windows are more forgiving, being in channels.

As an owner of a 50 F2 with leaky windshield and back glass, it is critical to do this right as leaky anything causes all sorts of problems.

I think they bent you over! I had a side window glass cut locally, while I waited, for $30.

I recently had a local shop make vent windows for me. They sponsor a local car show series so I wanted to send business their way. They were reluctant to do it, complaining and whining attitude, then took a week and charged me $80 to do two vent windows. I won't be going back there. Called several other places, again no one want to do it. Finally found a guy that is happy to make the front and rear windows for me, just bring the patterns, $150 each and about a week. LMC has them in stock and wants $207, delivered.

Is there anyone who has or could make me some paper tracings for all of the glass for my 1948 Fi. Thank you in advance.

Just as easy to buy it from one of the great vendors of ford parts, Mid Fifty, LMC, etc.
