Hello, I just bought a 1995 Ford Bronco (getting it hopefully this friday). I definitely want to do a lift kit ive search around and some are very expensive. I dont plan on going offroading i just want it for show...for now. Anybody have any suggestions of a cheap kit. Was thinking doing a 5" block lift in the rear, and doing a 6" spring lift in the front. Would i be able to just do springs if the shocks extend far enough, or what else would i need to get?
Don't go the cheap way, you'll regret it, alignment issues, faster wear of suspension and steering parts, no true 4WD capabilities, worse ride... the list keeps going, but i think you got the point, do a little search, this issue has been addressed several times before, i bet you'll find some nice threads.
Welcome to FTE and the Big Bronco Forum. We will do our best to get you the most accurate information we can.
Avoid blocks like the plague! Don't cheap out on this... lifting affects the center of gravity, the ride, the handling the load capacity just to name a few things. Lifting shouldn't be taken lightly! And if you are just looking for room to fit larger tires remember that you can't get too much bigger than stock tires without re-gearing the axles. The absolute best advice on adding a lift is to research the living hell out of the project before you even think about buying anything. Read the section on lifts in the red link in my signature below.
You WILL need new shocks with ANY suspension lift. You will destroy OEM shocks because they will be too short, period. With that much lift you will also need to extend the brake lines (two up front and one in the rear).
Thanks for the welcomes, Ive been doing as much research as possible right now. I did check out the link and that did help me. I'm thinking going down to 4" lift for 33" tires. Again I dont plan on going off-roading just want it for looks
The picture on that link definitely doesn't match the item description - per the description it comes with 4 shocks, a steering stabilizer and a drop pitman arm, none of which are pictured. That would be a lot of stuff for $400 if it really came with everything described.
Rough Country is about as cheap as lifts come, and I've seen pretty wide-ranging opinions about how good they are - a common complaint is about a harsh ride. If you read enough you'll come across negative opinions about pretty much any brand of lift, though. As others have said, do a lot of research and don't rush into anything. You may decide that it's better to save up for something else.
Yeah, Im still going to look around. Im absolutely in no rush, I dont even have tires or even the money right now to get going on this project.
Im definitely going to take a recommendations or thoughts on other brands etc. If I decide on something Ill most likely try finding a store that will have the kit to see exactly what im getting in it.
I always look at it this way, why buy a truck if you don't want a rough ride? Thats just my thought. Im young and was driving a car with no rear suspension at all for half a year. That was a rough ride.
on that year bronco you can fit a 33" tire with no lift. you will just need to shim the front bumper out a bit and remove that plastic piece that hangs below the front bumper. Understand this wont improve the ride much and will have an impact on your MPG. you might just consider some really nice shocks and a 2" leveling kit.
