Hi, I want to buy an F250 w/ a utility bed for a pool service truck.
I'm wondering how much weight the side compartments can handle without worrying about the bottoms busting out.
Anyone here have a utility bed that carries 150 lbs or more in the side compartments?
Thanks
It depends on the manufacturer of the box. Most are quite stout.
I carried around a lot of tools and parts in a couple of different bodies. I'm sure that each shelf was loaded over 150 lbs. regularly, and each compartment was loaded over 500 lbs. at times. I welded angle iron into a compartment on each one that I mounted a large tool box onto. The box weighs about 250 lbs. when filled with tools. I never had a problem with the structure flexing or breaking down, even though I drove on gravel roads a lot and around a rock quarry daily.
Expect to add a lot of weight with the service body. They have to be quite stout to withstand the abuse they take.
