I have a '74 F-250 2wd with Disc Brakes and I know there is only certain wheels that will fit that application due to the brake calipers. But I can't remember if the problem is the backspace or wheel size. Is it the wheel size (15" don't fit, but 16" does)? Or is it the back space (both 15" and 16" will fit if you have the correct backspace)? How much backspace should I have?
I have a 75 f250 2wd front disk, I cant use 15" rims because of the double piston calipers and rotors. 15" rims are too small in diameter to clear the calipers and rotor. I dont know if there is a minum rim width for these trucks but I think 8" rim width is the norm, Back spacing I dont know the awnser. I think 15" rims only have 5 lug holes anyways and usally found on 1/2 tons but I could be wrong.

I dont know about the backspacing but as for the size of the wheels. On my truck (76 F.250 4wd) 16`s will just barely clear the calipers on the front and there is no way 15`s would fit. I`m not sure about this but I`ve been told if you use an alluminum wheel that is 16in. it will not fit but the steel one will because the alluminum is thicker and will rub.
ok i know this is off subject but i have a 1974 ford f-250 with a 390 and 3 on the tree. i need to be able to put my motorcycles and fourwheelers in the back and throw my 29 foot trailer on the back and still be able to move. the 390 is a powerfull engine but it is not doing what i need. i am afraid that if i put all that weight on the back i will end up going back wards down a hill. any suggestions for more power that are cheap? i also need to know if 3800-4000 RPM is in the right range for this old truck if any one can help me PLEASE let me know. thanks, mason
you can make 15" rims fit by grinding down the caliper. i knew a kid that did this when we were in high school on his 75 highboy. he was running 39.5 x 15 x 15 swampers. can't remember the rim width though.
stick with good 16s or 16.5s or even 17s... the 15" trick only works on drum brake ffront ends or single piston calipers like the chevy and lightduty 3/4 ton trucks do....try to grind down a 2 piston to clear and your asking for it to fail later...tried it on my new 250 frame to keep my 38X15.50r15s on 15X12 bart steel wheels... after cracking the calipers 2 weeks later i replaced them and sold the wheel and tire packaqge...now run the 16.5 slots on 39.5X15.5r16.5 swampers...I also had a set of 44X18R16.5 boggers on crome allied mods 16.5X12 rims(someome decided they wanted them more than me....)
