A lot of people on here say its hard to find Crew Cabs with long beds but try to find a F350 4x4 V10 or diesel Regular cab/Long Bed truck in either SRW or DRW that is the rarest type of non Cab-chassis truck out there.
My '11 CC/LB is so much easier to park than my '00 SC/LB. I can finally turn the wheel and NOT have to be rolling. The old '00 wouldn't turn the 37" tires unless I was rolling, talk about a pain to park...
With the back up cam and sensors on the '11, I have no problem backing into a spot. Apparently my forward parking difficulties have been unearthed by a snow-hidden 2' tall concrete post that left a nice softball size concave dent in my front bumper yesterday at the beer distributor....sigh... Most expensive beer run ever.
My son and I ride KTM dirt bikes. ONE of the reasons I bought a 8' bed is; the bikes measures 7' tire to tire, can't close the tail gate and pull the rv. Tried that and almost killed the other vehicle. Tried using a extention bar added to the reciever then add the hitch, to put the ball past the tailgate when down. Then the canilever(?), receiver ball weight was a problem, sag and weight factor on rear axle. Vehicle was nose diving. I see guys hauling dirt bikes with short beds, but not pulling anything. 8' bed takes care of hauling anytype of bike and then being able to pull your rv.
that's right
I hear you, when I was looking for my truck the salesman kept showing me short bed trucks. I cant handle them short beds, I like to be able to get a full sheet of plywood and 8ft 2x4 in the bed with the tailgate closed.
try taking a full size semi tractor down to walmart sometime. your CC LWB won't feel nearly so big. if you ever long haul and have some time to do a grocery run while waiting ,its what you do. my reg trailer is a 53 foot triaxle, with a med length sleeper and we get it around some incredibly tight corners out in the oilpatch. roads that were engineered more for an operator in a pickup. after you do that for a while a LWB CC doesn't really feel all that big. as far as going into town, generally its not a big deal for me, except the mall at Christmas time. if i don't actually need the truck for what i'm doing my #1 city vehicle is the bike,#2 is either my car or the wifes. cheaper and leaves more $ for what i'd rather be doing. my self personally i just hate driving in the city in the first place 10 minutes an i'm about ready to kill
I find the super or crew cab / short bed trucks better looking than those with the 8' bed. However, to have all that heavy duty suspension, etc and a small bed wouldn't cut it for me, since I actually use the truck for a side business too.
Dealers around Pittsburgh had few 8' beds, but a dealer north of the city in farm country had a bunch of them. They were also the only dealer that had 6 speeds, when you could still get them in 2010. Unfortunately, they all had electronic 4x4, which I refused to buy, so I had to order exactly what I wanted, which was fine with me.
I am of the school that if you have a work truck get the 8' bed.
Personal use truck get whatever you want.
When you start to haul motorsports equipment or building equipment a utility trailer is great much easier to load than a pickup bed. Why beat the heck out of your 40+ K truck instead of a 1.5K trailer? My 5x10 takes a beating that saves the truck bed.
So why then do we have all of the posts complaining that trucks with 8' beds are too hard to park? Can't have it both ways...
After 40 yrs in chevy half tons it took a few weeks to get used to the F-250. I felt like I was driving a moving truck again. With any truck I've ever driven the most important thing is setting your mirrors right and learning how to use them. I sometimes feel I spend as much time backing down as forward on the farm. It all comes with practice. Haven't met a parking space yet that I couldn't get in, but I don't drive in any big city either where there is always somebody behind you getting impatient. That might be part of the problem. I can lay a tree down in the woods on a dime but put me near a building with people watching and its rope time.
It took me 6 months to find it but I finally bought a 2010 Supercab, Long bed, manual transmission. I'll probably have it forever since you can't get a manual anymore. It was exactly what I was looking for and certified pre-owned to boot. It might take a while but I'm sure you'll find your truck.

But then with my loaded 8ft bed, i can still park where ever i want, and it doesn't become a pain in the butt to maneuver in tight spaces or back up. Its a matter of personal preference really, though. Both have +'s and -'s.
One reason I quit Chevy was because I couldn't get a manual. I didn't realize this was Fords last yr. Guess I better take care of this one. Its my perfect truck. 2010 new with $6000 rebate, reg cab, long bed, manual trans, manual 4x4 shift and hubs, tow package and plow package. Exactly what I wanted but put the dealer through heck to find it.
