I my last 2 trucks have been short beds and I'll probably never go back as long as I drive crew cabs. It's a lot easier to drive around town. When I need to haul big stuff, I just hook up a trailer.
Yup me too, I have a trailer for garbage, brush or lumber supplies etc
its funny though, before i got an 8' bed, i thought they looked weird and dis-proportional to the truck, but now, after owning one, seeing an f150 with a short bed is weird. i went to load some stuff in a buddies truck. its a 150 crew cab short bed. all i could think was "dang thats a small bed"
yea i just got ride of a have ton chevy i hade with a short bed. and got a CC LB F250 and i wish i would have got ride of that chevy years ago i have no problems getting this boat around town. i will never own a any thing smaller then a crew cab long box.
I found a reg cab long bed. I like having the 8' bed too. You put a toolbox on a shortbed and even a 6' ladder hangs out the back and you need to tie it down. I had a extended cab short bed and I really missed the long bed. Now I have a reg cab long bed and I don't miss the extended cab as much as I missed the long bed. I like to keep the length of my truck in the middle. I like the look of reg cab and extended cab long beds. Crewcab longbeds look like limousines. I'd take one of those over a reg cab short bed though. I just really really don't like that look. It amazed me how many of those I'd see on CL and even just driving around. Looks like a big rollerskate. For me though, the perfect setup is extended cab long bed. If I ever have a family, I'm sure it'll be a Crew Cab long bed though. Couldn't have myself ending up in a minivan.
I just bought my 2004 two weeks ago. Its a short bed CC. when i was 18, i said "anyone who buys a $30k fullsize pickup and doesnt get a longbox is a retard. Why would you spend that kind of $$ and not be able to stack a load of plywood or drywall flaght in the box?"
Well, fastforward 22years. I do more thinking with my head on my shoulders than the one between my legs. Ive had this truck and it is so friken big, i cant imagine a cc longbox. That is not to say anyone who has one is stupid, it just isnt as necessary for me anymore.
When i sent the last 4 mo loking for this truck, Longboxes were few and far between unless it was a base XL model.
Just like it took a LOOOOOONNNNGGGG time to find a low mile v10 out here in the west that wasnt $28k or had 70K plus miles. I live in Portland and I found mine in San Francisco- drove it home.
It took me 6 months to find it but I finally bought a 2010 Supercab, Long bed, manual transmission. I'll probably have it forever since you can't get a manual anymore. It was exactly what I was looking for and certified pre-owned to boot. It might take a while but I'm sure you'll find your truck.
There are still things a manual can do that an automatic cannot. I'll keep my handshaker (apparently forever now... this appears to be the last pickup I'll ever own unless good transmissions become available again)
Well said. I will be doing the same.
As for a short bed. my lightning has a short bed, and that is the only truck that should. O and that should of had a manual as well(working on that)
I love my CC, LB until I have to back-up in a tight spot, you can load 2 bikes in the bed close the tailgate and still hook-up a trailer.plus I can still load stuff in the bed with the 5th wheel.
I love my cc with an 8 ft bed...I can get anything I need to haul in the back. Mostly, that means lacrosse goals...six feet wide, six feet tall and seven feet long. They even fit with the tool box installed. The truck does pretty god around town, too. I need to get a backup camera to make things easier, though.
I found my 2010 F350 xlt 4x4 extended cab 8' bed sitting at a Chevy dealer in the used car lot, Had 9,000 miles on it and still under factory warrenty. All Ford dealers I looked at had 6.5 beds. Salesman told me it is supply/demand, what guys are buying.
Keep looking, the 8's are out there. You might have to travel to get one. Most dealers if they do have them are located in the back of the lot.
Good luck.
As for the tool box, most guys buy one and then don't use it and wind up selling it for quarter of the price they bought it for. I mounted a 60mm machine gun tower box on the floor by the tail gate. Ran a lock through it and keep my tow chains, tools, work gloves etc.. in it. It is thin enough I can still slide plywood or sheet rock in with no problem. Also Put 6 more eye bolts through the side bed holes and one in the front for tieing down stuff. Put a 3/8" rubber mat in the bed and now he's ready for work.
I used to think a long bed looked stupid. After having a LB, I can't see ever having a short. With a cc lb I don't even think about parking up front. Can't even pull into some parking lots. In the winter, 4wd is a must just to push the PS around. But come summertime, the cab is full, the boat is hooked on, and we are gone.
New here but have been reading posts since I bought my first Ford in 40 yrs. I've owned Chevy trucks but quit them when I could no longer get a standard. Used to drive them crazy finding me one. I ask for an 8ft bed, standard cab, towing package and plow package. Its a truck and should be used as one. They will find you one if you have a good dealer. If not move on or go on the net and find it yourself. I searched 7 local states. I did that for my wifes car. They went and got it once I found it.
What I find hard to believe are folks who buy a truck then use a trailor to haul things. Buy an SUV.
I dont know were you live but a ford dealer by me has one. And also I found 3 on the ford site. And a couple on ebay. I live in New York. And also I would not by anything with a wheel base less. Then 158 inches as I hate the small fuel tank.
