Hi all, I had had trouble starting my 93 idi last night. wts light would come on for 10 sec go out but I couldn't hear the realy clicking. then this morning wts on for 10 sec realys click as usual and starts now worries. Have had to cycle glow plugs 2 or 3 times qutie often over the last 2 months to get it to start. I read the glow plug post and would asume that it is the realay. I look for the possible melted conector in the harness that was talked about but I could not figure that one out.
See the connector circled in red?
That is a 6.9 engine, but you have a connector in that same location with two more wires in the connector.(which is probably black on the 7.3)
On the bottom in the picture are two large orange wires that carry the glow plug power.
On your 7.3, the wires will be either tan or yellow, 2 of them on one end of the connector.
If the connector looks melted on that end, you have to splice the glow plug power wires around the connector.
Caution, on the 7.3 engine the chassis side wires go directly to the battery positive post, they are always electrically hot.
