Good Morning Guys!!! I need a little help here and this place is so helpful, I have faith someone will send me in the right direction. Please be patient with me as I am a "girl" ha ha and will use all the wrong terms in trying to explain.
2000 Excursion V10 6.8
170,000 miles
I first had problems with her starting so I read all kinds of things here and pretty much did all of them. She only refused to start from time to time but it started to become more often. Read here to turn the key to the on position 5 times and turn over on the 6<SUP>th</SUP>, totally worked.
Replaced IAC with Motorcraft, seemed to run better but still didn’t want to start from time to time.
Moved on to changing Fuel Filter, PCV, Cleaned Maf, and Sea Foam. She seemed to even run better but again still wanted to not start and she was doing it every time you went to start her. The key 5 times still worked. Until about 3 days after the last clean and replacement parts, she totally died in my driveway. Didn’t take to much to figure out the Fuel Pump was gone.
After reading all the warnings on after markets, I knew I could only replace with a Motorcraft. After the sale of my diamonds, pets, child (which they returned!!), and anything that wasn’t nailed down, I proudly walked into the Ford Dealer and made my investment.
I was the only one in my family that was jumping up and down with joy knowing this was going to do it!!! Guess the rest did not share in my joy since they were doing the work. Didn’t quite understand as I take pride in my cheerleading skills. Oh and there was some back talk about my freshly FILLED TO THE BRIM gas tank. I mean really boys.......girls cant run around without plenty of gas!!!!!
Four Harley floor jacks, to many to count little useless jacks, one floor jack, two forklifts, and tons of bad words we changed the fuel pump!!! Yay, I am still alive!!!
Turns over and I am smiling but have to head back to the gas station as I filled the neighborhood with gas. After a mile or so at idle and up to about 35 mph she has a choke like she isnt getting gas. She does not stall just has a hard time going. That lasted for about 20 miles then she ran great for 2 days. Back to the choking like she isnt getting gas...........
HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Any ideas or suggestions????? I really like where I live and love my family but I am on thin ice. I really love my Excursion but didn’t plan on living in her ha ha

 

First off I'm not fully versed in this because I have not had this issue yet, but will try to add a bit.

Have you checked the fuel pressure? I think there is a nib on the fuel rail somewhere to be able to check. Maybe do a quick search on here for local and procedure.

 

When you change the fuel pump, you should also change the relay as well. Otherwise, the new pump will go out again soon.

 

Diffinetly check the pressure at the rail. The regulator may be going bad.
