Here we go. I checked the general oil level . It was just over the normal spot on the dip stick. I opened up the resevior on the front of the motor. It was empty again. I checked the three prong plun on the driver side of the motor. The one Rick mentioned and that was just mentioned again. It looked fine dry and clean. I re-filled the oil tank about 1 quart in there. Turned the key , glowed it , nothing. I glowed it one more time and this time gave it half throttle. If fired right up. It blew white smoke like a motha. I kept the RPM's at 1500 so it would not stall but it was running really rough. I figured with me opening the fuel filter before maybe there was some air in there. I ran it like that for about 4 minutes stinking out my whole block then decided to drive around the block and give my neibors and break. It ran very very bad. Nothing like ever before.
I should mention my Spedo and odemeter have not worked for while. I know this causes the trans to shift hard but never affected the motor before.
My check engine light came on all the sudden when it started as well. It has never been on before during the last month.
I drove it down to the gas station and filled the front tank and threw 15 in the rear which allready had some in it.
I let it run there for another five minutes. I finally hit the road again. I drove onto a Rt. 202 and got it up to speed . The turbo did not seem to be doing anything at all. The temp was still low on the guage. As soon as it hit almost the middle on the temp guage the turbo seemed to start working. It would come on hard at 2100 and pull good . Just like old times. I drove a couple miles and got off to turn around. The motor seemed very down on power at this point with lots of white smoke. Even when I was driving down the highway barely hitting the throttle on my truck. The whole way home I did not hear the turbo at all. I got home and in my driveway I hit the throttle a couple times with the door open. I heard the motor running bad but no turbo noise at all, I did hear a ratteling sound comming from the turbo area like a bad wheel bearing . I got out my OBDII scanner and checked it . It said no codes? I started the truck again it started and ran bad. The CEL was on again. I shut it off and tried to re-test with the scanner , Yes I had the key ON when I tested it. If my turbo went could it cause the hard stat? I know the previous owner had a crack in his air box past the filter. I dont know if he ran it like this and trashed the trubo or not? Im so deep in this truck and really need it to haul wood and my skid steer now this. Thanks for your help and Please advise>>>>>>>>>>>>??????????
Evidently your code reader isn't compatible with the powerstroke cause there is a code for sure with the light coming on. I'm thinking you have an IPR issue, but wait to see what others say. As far as the turbo, pull the intake and see how much play you have in the wheel. A little side to side is ok as long as it doesn't contact the housing, no in and out should be there. Also see if the wheel has been "dusted" or chipped.
Open question to all....could his EBPV be all jacked up?....
Turbo leaking oil causing ...?
Regarding the Turbo question...might take the boot off and inspect the blades, etc.
I am at a loss and others that know more than me will chime in....
Hi guys sorry I vanished. I shot up to Elk Mountain to ski today. I had off and have not been on a mountain all year. Nice day lots of sun and 20 degrees but sunny. The mechanic who did the work is about 1 hour away. On the otherhand my buddy has a shop 10 minutes away. He does not work on diesels but has a modus computer that can read codes in most anything and tranny codes as well. Is this what your talking about? I could have him stop over since I dont want to drive the truck that far in its current state. Its lots of stop and go to get to his place. If that will work I will ask him to stop by this week.
I have not been able to have somebody come over and run the codes with a good computer. I also took a trip for a week so it slowed me down. The truck will start now every time when overfilled with oil. I will work on getting somebody with a good computer over on the codes. It also still smokes very bad till it warms up.
