Ok I filled the oil tank on the front and quickly re-instaled the plug and pluged it in. I jumped in the truck and it fired right up. It ran for about 15 seconds then died. I tried to re-start it and it ran for 1 second then died . Then I quit becuase I didn't want to overheat the starter and I wanted to check the oil tank on the front of the motor again. It was empty. I filled it again . It started right up ran about 10 seconds and died. I checked the oil tank again empty. I have no idea where to go from here. I am very happy the truck ran at all. Thanks and What Do I Do Next??
How about pulling the oil filter and checking to make sure that the check valve or whatever it is is still in the housing. I didn't think the 96 & 97 had as much of an issue as the older ones but should check. If so, maybe add a couple extra courts of oil and fill the res. and try again. Maybe there is a crack in the pickup tube and you're sucking air..
Ok so you recoment I pull the oil filter? Then check that everything looks to be in order. I can do this but have no idea what im looking at. Does anybody know where I can get a photo of what this should look like? Then I will do it. I just dont want to pull it , make a mess, and not know what Im doing anyway? Thanks
I would be happy to check the relay and I do have a multi meter but am not sure how to check it?
Im still stuck on what to look for under the oil filter, but am willing to do that as well. Im still happy it started at all !
A couple things to answer your questions. The truck was down about two quarts of oil, when all this started. I thought it was one quart but it was two. it is filled now. It is parked on a very slight angle with the rear lower than the front but its not very inclined it just the smallest amount. Im going out now to work on the truck and pull the oil filter. Do you think I should try and re-fill the oil resivour one more time before I pull the filter?
Check the HPOP again for oil level....service if needed...and pull the ICP connector on the drivers side (left Head) and try to start....also look inside the connector to verify dry or maybe wet with oil...
