I agree with Dave. Stat problem. The thermostats sole job it bring the engine temp up to where its supposed to be and keep it there. You could have a radiator the size of a house and still keep the engine at the correct temp if the stat is working correctly. These trucks didn't have a heat issue off the factory floor shiny new so a clean radiator isn't your problem.
Actually I read through this all again, sounds like the ones that were fluctuating in post 12 were working like they should have been.
The new radiator keep the coolant in it cold enough that the thermostat had to constantly open and close.
The engine was not making enough heat to get the radiator temp up to where the thermostat could open and stay that way.
Where you said the temp gets to about 200, then the thermostat opens and it levels off between 120 and 150 sounds like the thermostat is not closing once it opens.
I have one and it's agreeing with the temp gauge. It's working fine right now though. The ambient temps are about 60 now. temp is holding around 190-200. I don't know. My sons truck has a new Ford thermostat in it too and it's doing the same crap. His is a 7.3 IDI with the same radiator. I give up till I have a reason to pull the engine next month. About to order a new front cover and oil cooler.
I also have luke-warm heat in my cab when it is warmed up and I suspect a pen in the door. What is the best way to access the blend door? thanks for the help
