Quick question my park brakes are not working, is there anything i can add to hold my front brakes while its parked, and yes it a 4speed, but it runs a PTO so it has to be in neutral. Wanna hear what some of you have rigged up besides blocking the wheel.
Also this is a rollback with a tow bar on the back, i was wondering who has converted it to a wheel lift. I've read where some people has done this but i cant find a write up on it.
Way back when we had a 1969 F 700 wrecker that had vacuum over hydraulic brakes.
One of the companies that sold wrecker bodies had a setup that you applied the hydraulic brakes, then moved a lever that increased the brake line pressure and locked the brakes on all four wheels.
With where some of the vehicles we had to recover were located, down over the side of a mountain, both that setup and wheel chocks were standard operating proceedure.
Don't know if something like that is still on the market today or not.
I have not driven a wrecker since 1975 or so.
Roll backs, we only wish we had something like that back then.
Dolly under anything that did not have a set of wheels that would roll on one end or the other.
well, really you should repair the emergency brakes.
after all,how would you stop the truck in the event of a brake line rupture?
that's why line lock devices wont pass safety inspection here.they work as a parking brake, but not as an emergency brake.
edit,
and it would be much cheaper than $275.00 too.
i threw on a set of line locks. works great for me. my truck was on a 12 degree driveway, i pushed the brakes, flipped the switches and she was solid as a rock.
you are right and the killing part about this is I have a donor truck for the foot brake. I bought new cables and they were a little different. So i guess ill just try dealer for cables.
So where is it install on your truck and how many do you have? I just need my e brake for loading and unloading with my pto running, everything else i just leave it in gear.

I totally agree to fix your existing parking brakes, but I don't think they hold up well as emergency brakes. When my service brakes decided they quit, my left foot put the parking brake pedal to the floor also, the parking brake cable snapped and I just had to downshift. Another reason i'll NEVER own an automatic truck. Luckily nobody was coming as I crossed the intersection...At that point I was going pretty slow going from 3rd to 2nd to 1st.
I say fix the regular parking brakes and install a line-lok on the front and rear. Apply the parking brake and the line-lok's and call it a day. That's what I have planned for my truck! No such thing as too much back up.
i have 2. one for the front, one for the rear. i mounted mine where the front brake line comes into the T on the drivers side frame rail, then bent up a short line from napa into a S and ran back to the T. for the rear, theres a long stretch between the front and the rear right behind your drivers side door. i just cut into that, flared the ends and mounted it up.
blue oval, I was just going to say, try stopping one of these trucks with the emergency brake.
On that not I have found that new, not relined so much, brake shoes "miss" the ebrake lever when put on, I had to weld up my shoe tabs and grind to fit, works great now.
Just something to consider when doing a brake job.
Running a roll back, I would never trust just the emergency brake.
Line locks or the micro lock, plus the emergency brake, plus wheel chocks.
But then again, I am in the mountains.
The micro lock is close to what we had on the F 700, just a smaller version.
Course in 69, there was only a single stage master cylinder, so one took care of all four wheels.
With the dual stage master cylinder today, it would take two to lock all four wheels.
You will never find an emergency brake that will hold what the micro lock will.
The drive line parking brake on the F 700 was close, but the micro lock still beat it since it worked on all four wheels.
This is the tow bar i'm talking about, it's the older style, i'm trying to convert it to the newer style wheel lift. I've read where it has has been done but i cant find a write up on it.
