Hey guys, does anybody have any experience with these holley EFI kits? I am looking to make my truck a little more user friendly. I am planning to move back to CO within the next year, and have heard plenty of stuff about having to re-jet and tune the carb. I presently have the stock carter 1bbl. Have looked into going with a bigger carb with the offy intake and EFI exhaust, but the overall price is similar to going with an EFI kit, but I will have the same problems with tuning once I move. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I found a good deal on a kit on ebay...check it out
Great price on that kit, but you'll still need to buy the intake, so add that to your price. Also, IIRC this is a 900 cfm kit (overkill) and I don't think they control ignition timing (not sure, so check me on that). I'd think you might do better with a factory EFI from a junkyard along with some mods and programming. Still a great deal on this setup.
The devil with aftermarket EFI systems is the tuning - it takes several hours of logging data and tweaking to get it dialed in 100%. And you'll need a co-pilot to man the laptop while you're trying to log data.
I've got an older Projection 4-Di system I had on the 302 in my pickup. It ran fine, but I didn't have a laptop to fine tune the thing. Now that I've got a laptop I'm probably going to give it a go on the 300 in the Bronco just for shirts and giggles one of these days.
And like he ^ said you'll have to put on a new intake. Plus a TFI dizzy and the adapter if you want it to control the timing - and you do want it to control the timing. You've also got to plumb your gas tank for a return line or get an EFI tank and sending unit.
