Run without fuel filter?

Think my truck gelled up last night. Was wondering if these trucks will run without the filter?

Probably would but I wouldn't do it. Better get it inside somewhere if at all possible and thaw it out. Then just put in a new one.

If you can't get inside get some diesel 911 and a new filter and try that..

it's not worth risking your injectors!
thurogh some lights under the hood and warm it up.

If it runs, it will likely get starved for fuel. There's a pin at the top of the filter that releases the check valve in the stand pipe that allows full flow.

I sure wouldn't try to run w/o a filter unless it was an emergency - a call to AAA (or the tow company) is a lot cheaper than getting the injectors overhauled.

i wouldn't. not after seeing what can be at the bottom of the fuel bowls in some fleet trucks lol

also in my experiance it will not even run. the check ball closes the port that allows fuel in

Thanks. That was what I was wondering. Someone told me it would run. I didn't beleive it. My bowl was very clean. So I tried it. It would barely run for 10 - 20 seconds. I put 911 in the canister with diesel and the rest in the tank. Wouldn't run even without the filter. Walked a mile and half at -17. Next day I got a new filter. Ran but filter light flickered and then came on solid. Went and got 5 gal. of #1. Then let it idle for 1 hour to use up the bad fuel. Runs good now. Must have gotten a bad blend.

Thats wild.. I havent heard too many here (actually any) having their fuel gel up this year! Might be suggestable to have a spare filter behind the seat!

Ya.I used to put Power Service treatment in when ever it got below zero. Then I started to trust the blending at the gas stations. I never learn. Long time ago I had a 6.2 that gelled up a couple times. Said to self " Not going to let that happen again." guess I just dropped the ball.

Don't think just a filter would have done it. The 911 took a while to work. The next day, when I put the new filter in the filter light came on in a mile or two. Think the fuel in the tank was to gelled. Once the I put the #1 in it cleared up.

Anyone put a small amount of gas in the tank to clear up gelling. Couple of people have told me this, but I'm not brave enough to try it.

I never got brave enough either in the PSD. My old 81 Jetta diesel's owners manuel said you could put up to 20% gas in, once I was stranded at -30 I put some in and it worked after about an hour of letting it idle. That's the only time I did it.
