skipping up hills

hello, im new here, im a proud newish owner of a 99 f150 xl with the 4.6, auto tranny and manual on the floor transfer case shifter. my problem is just recently i was driving to my buddys house and i was about halfway up a decent sized hill going about 40 and it started shaking and slowing down. it kindof felt like the rear wheels were hopping. i hit the gas a little bit and it seemed to stablize a little but was still shaking. im not new to working on trucks but ive never had this happen before. any help would be appreciated, thanks, nick

your going to need more info.... Was the motor lugging and the trans did not down shift ? Does it do it at a steady 60 MPH on the highway ? Do you think its motor/ trans related?

It wasn't the motor lugging the tranny downshifted like i think its supposed to and I had just gotten off the highway and it ran fine. It was only when going up hill at about 40 mph

Did you have any weight in the back of the truck?

Another thing to think about is that state of the roads and your tires. Was it or had it snowed recently?
