I have a 1965 F100 4x4 and I'm about to put a new set of tires on it ..some mud tires to play with I'm wondering what is the largest size tire I can put on there with the truck sitting at stock height...also is there any way I can lift the truck to get a little more room for taller tires not super tall but at least like a 33 or 35...Thanks in advance.
hey, i just got done reading an article in jp magizine about rancho suspension- it seems they have a lot of single pieces for older vehicles-you may be able to put together a spring lift through them without too much trouble. and as for larger tires, if it doesnt have power steering, dont put bigger tires on it! beyond that, you should get away with 1-2" diameter over stock without a problem.
You should be able to run 33's no problem at all. That's what I got on my '65 and it has no lift and no rubbing at all. They are 33x12.5x16.5. I could probably put 35's on it actually with minimal rubbing. As far as power steering, unless you're unable, you won't have a problem at all unless you changed the steering wheel to a normal sized one. Mine turns just fine, even at a dead stop. As far as I know, there aren't any lifts prefab for our trucks, so the easiest route I believe it so change the spring mounts over from a mid-70's truck and use a lift kit of that year. Good Luck!
I just put some tires on my 66 F-250. 285/75/16 on 8 in rims. The tires stand 34 inches tall, front tires rub some when I make hard turns but not bad, the rear is fine....by the way my trk is 2x4 stock stance.
thank yall for the info, wolverine I looked in the rear of my truck and it's kind of tight in there as far as tire width, looks like they would rub width wise anyway . Did you have to cut your truck to get those tires to fit? The front is no problem as the guy who had it before me took out the fenderwells so I have a load of clearance up front it's just in the back where is looks kind of narrow.
No , strong arm , I thought of changing it over , but going to leave it org...as far as the effort just slight movement and I can steer with one hand turns and all , but my truck has a service box full of stuff and a 300 six for a engine, light in the front and heavy in the rear.
i had 33"x12.5" bfg all terrains tires in the rear of my 65 f100 2wd. they fit fine. (just remember almost all brands of tires are a different measurement) i did however need to massage the inner fender. there was a curved section, that curved inward towards the tire. a few smacks with a BFH and it fit fine.
matt
hey there i just wanted to let you know that i have a 66f-100 and i istalled a 4 inch lift from sky jacker my self about 4-6 hour job. i have 33x12.50x15 with no power steering all arm strong. its a daily driver and theres no problem. i spend a lot of time off road in ti also. the only thing you need to worry about is hitting large rocks thats when it becomes a little fun with the no power steering. the lift was about $315.00 for the shocks, springs and add a leef. everthing bolts right up.
I suggest going to 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers on the net and looking at their suspension section. I don't know if they have things that old but they do get kits from all of the major companies. Skyjacker, Pro Comp, Superlift, Rancho, etc.
