Tire Question

What's the maximum size tire i can put on my truck? It's a 2wd, stock height, and no suspension work. I'm planning on running 17 inch wheels when i go to purchase wheels and tires

Probably something around a 235/65x17 depending on offset.

A 265/70r17 is going to be 31.6" tall. Your 255/70r15's are 29.05". Do you have that much more clearance? The 235/65r17's will be 29.02".

You wheel offset is going to come into play there. Maybe somebody else who has run that combination will chime in. Good luck.

I'm running 31x10.50x15's on my truck, 2wd, no suspension mods. I have 8.50 aluminum wheels (no idea what the back spacing is). The front tires rub slightly when going over severe bumps or dips (I think on top of the tire, as there are no obvious marks).

The wheels i'm getting are 17X9's. maybe I can't make up my mind, HAH! but i'm not going any bigger than 17's unless i can find a good deal on a set of 18's. As for tires i'm really liking the new Goodyear Duratrac's.

Put those in your front springs and you will be fine.

My truck sits level already so i don't need any more lift in the front.

sorry to hijack but anyone confirm if this will work for me.... my spare tire was shot so i got the spare off a 94 bronco. it's got a goodyear wrangler on it 265/75/R15. I currently have 31's on the truck right now. no height clearance issue but there are rub marks on the radius arms but i'm not worried about that. i'll admit the 265 looks awfully wide....

If you are going to keep the odd tire out on your vehicle for any length of time, I would put it on the rear. If you put it on the front for any extended period of time, you run the risk of throwing out your alignment. That being said, you will also affect your rear end (bearings, seals, etc.) if left on for an extended period. I have 31x10.50x15's on my truck, but my spare is a 255/70/15. I have never had to use it as a spare, but it is a left over from the second set that I ever put on the truck.
