Interior lights stay on

Interior lights are sometimes staying on for 30 minutes after all doors have been closed. Thought it was the back hatch, but now seems to be random. I've cleaned the latches and lubricated with no luck. What else could be causing this?? A relay, computer. Anyone else had this problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

Ford updated the door ajar switches before the 2004 model year, so your problem may lie elsewhere. I recall changing out the switches in my '01 Ltd with '04 pieces, and I've had no door ajar problems at all with my '05 EB.

I had the same problem with my 2000 Excursion dome lights since i bought mine in 2005. Last summer I sprayed the door latches with Walmart brake cleaner. It worked, not one problem since. They close easy, no build up from lube that was on them from factory. Hope this helps.
Thanks
Jim

Possible relay problem

My fix for the interior light on problem was to replace the "delay" relay. This is the relay that turns off your interior lights after, I believe, about 20 to 30 seconds. Chek your owners manual for the right relay in the power panel under the steering column. I just swapped with a similar relay and that fixed it. So I took the bad relay apart and cleaned the contacts. Easy to do.

Have you looked here for your owners manual?

I had that problem and it turned out to be the switches in the rear hatch. they get dirty and filled with dust etc. I simply unplugged them and now the truck doesn't care if the hatch is open or not which is the way I like it.

it could be water in your drivers door keypad. mine got wet inside and the interior lights and running board lights would switch on and off randomly. I took the keypad out and dried it out then greased the contacts with silicone grease. no problems since.

Mine was/is the rear hatch too. If I dont slam it shut it shows open and the dome lights dont go off for a while or they come on and off like it is making intermittent connection. If I close it firmly, no issues.

I believe they are supposed to time out after 10 minutes? if they are staying on for upwards of 30 minutes then there is an issue with either the GEM or as someone else mentioned something is triggering the interior lights and they are constantly resetting the timer and stating on. time to start unplugging things and see where/when they go out.

06 crew cab 6.0l dome/cargo Lights stay on and dont turn off. Also door chimes with headlights off and key off when door is open. I suspect my key switch as ive noticed the dash only illuminates during pre cycle and not on the first accessorie. Last winter when it got cold the starter would crank at the precycle positions. I changed out the switch under the steering column and thats when the no lights on dash until pre cycle issue started. This week got cold again and now my dome lights wont turn off. Even after 2 hours. Any help would be great

You posted your problem in the Excursion sub-forum. You may have better luck getting a reply if you posted in the following 1999-206 Super Duty sub-forum ...
