I thought an oil change was recommended after doing the seafoam treatment,
That's what my bottle said. I do remember reading somewhere not to drive over 100 miles before changing the oil after adding Seafoam to the oil. Could have been on the internet somewhere but I certainly understand why.
When I changed the oil on the 944 after purchase, half of it seemed to be sludge. Seafoam is going into the oil before I change it again to check how much is left. I've only put on 500 miles since and will only put on 20-50 once I add the Seafoam before I change it.
Not to dis Seafoam or anything, but we used to do the same thing with transmission fluid years ago. Either pour some down the carb or let it get sucked in through a vacuum port, let it sit for awhile, run the vehicle at fast idle until the smoke cleared, and viola! Better running engine. We used to use that trick for stuck valves too.
I bought the truck with 320k on the ticker, I did change the oil after the seafoam treatment, problem was all of the crap was already in the tube.
Exactly, previous owner didnt change the oil often enough and caused sludge build up in the first place. seafoam didnt kill it, the thing woulda died sooner or later due to all the sludge itself.
The treatment may have been the proverbial stick that broke the camel's back, but the fact remains that the engine was neglected enough to allow the sludge to develop in the first place. You bought the truck with over 300k on it, so the blame for the neglect obviously cannot be put on you. You did what you thought was right. I've seen the same thing happen with high mileage engines and Slick50. Ya put it in your engine, the engine gets all cleaned up, the sludge ends up in the oil pan, and the engine goes kaputski.
