i got in my truck the other day and when i started driving it was like it wouldnt accelerate...when i step on the gas it sounds like its sputerring and is just really rough and doesnt take off like normally does. i'm not really sure what to look at here cuz all these newer trucks have to pany computers and stuff im not familiar with...so PLEASE any help and advice would be much appreciated!!!
i had this exact same problem in my 02 5.4, it was the number 1 coil pack ? i think.. they replaced all of them but if u want to try to narrow it down you can either get someone with a really nice scanner ( they used a matco on mine which showed what each coil pack was doing) or if you can drive it for about 30 miles or so and just make it do it constantly the check engine light should come on telling you which cylinder it is, but i will tell u this, fords engline lights for this problem are hard to get on , mine didnt come on until they told me to make it do it constnantly. so its mostlikely one of your coil packs
did yours also like sputer real bad when idling in drive? mine only seems to do it when you put it in gear...when its idling in park it doesnt seem to do it. i just i really dunno what to do but i guess if worse comes to worse ill just hafta take it to a garage...by chance do you know how much it was for a new coil pack? Thanks!
There is high likelyhood there is one or more faulty coils with no code set.
Only way for you is to have the coils stress tested by a dealer shop and pay the going repair rate or you will hassle with it for quite some time.
You own a computer controlled vehichle so you are at the mercy of lack of ability and need shop assistance or a stroke of luck changing coils until you find the one that is causing the issue..
Good luck.
