i have a 77 ford with a 302 and i want to swap the rear end to a posi-tract rear end....does anybody know what year/make and models i would find them ...thank u guys once again...all input is appreciated..
limited slip wasent exactly standare equpiment on most trucks and cars.
your best bet is hit the junk yard and look around till you start findin 4X4 dents and jack up the rear end and give a wheel a spin, if the other wheel spins in the same direction youv got limited slip.
then continue your search till you find one with the right gears for you, or at least close enough, as long as you arent 4X4
"Posi-Trac"? Blasphemy!!! .. that's bowtie-speak !!! Use blue blooded FTE'ers call it Traction-Lok!
First take a look at your rear end to see if it still has the axle tag. If so, there should be some numbers that many denote it has limited slip. For example, "3 L 50". The "L" means trak-lok. An open carrier would simply be "3 50".
Second, verify your rear ratio by counting how many turns of the driveshaft it takes to make one wheel revolution.
Third, axle splines... 28 or 31? Typically, these rigs use 31-spline axles. The best way to verify is to actually pull an axle and count the splines.
Measure flange to flange and perch to perch and take these measurements with you while you're axle hunting.

Make sure you have a 9 inch rear end there is no cover or bolts on back of the rear.I had a 77 F100 with a 302 and it had a dana 44 rear end in it.They have a cover and bolts that hold the cover on the back side of axle or pumpkin.
