When I say "lived there", I mean "kept an apartment there". I was a rep for an avionics company over here to the Learjet completion center down at the airport, and the company found it was cheaper to rent a condo than to spend all the money on hotel rooms. I'd come in on Monday and fly out on Fridays. It was easy back then, as Hughes Air West ran non-stops from Tucson to Burbank and back, without everything having to go through PHX.
This trip, we hung around up on Tangerine and Thornydale, but did run out to Oro Valley a couple of times shopping. That area sure has changed! We took my wife sightseeing out West Speedway to see saguaros, up to Sabino Canyon, and walked around the UofA campus for a while. And, of course I HAD to take her out to see Tucson's fabulous Miracle Mile! I had always remembered that as quite a joke, and it didn't fail to produce the desired effect this time!

Didn't go north on Oracle Road, but I suspect it's considerably different from my years past, when it was a two-lane leading to a wider spot in the road, then off to a little town with a power plant (or maybe a mine??) with seemingly endless rail cars, that's on the back side of the Catalinas. I'll bet it's cleaner there today!

Pop, dont know how i glossed over this post.
once you pass Catalina everything is the same except the Copper mine you talked about is gone, a shame too, because that mine was the 4th largest copper producer in the world!
Sabino Canyon is a nice hike, and saguaro nat park west is very cool.
next time you come plan a trip to Kartchner caves down by benson
it's worth the trip.
My place is Ina and Thornydale, when you visit again look me up.
Bill, I hear ya. I grew up in Hawthorne NV were Walker Lake was just a few miles from town. I use to see the guys with boats spend a few hours to a few days at the lake & all the rest of the week was fixing, washing etc. So I never bought into the idea of being a boat owner. My buddy owned a nice jet boat. I remember one year we used it about 10 times & spent 3 months fixing stuff. From a new engine to you name it. Hell, I was tired of that boat & all I was doing was helping him. I didn't have pay the bills on it. That was when gas was a $1.50/gal.

What a great day, temps in the high 60s with sunshine. I'm lovin being back in Arizona. The summers will hard here, but we will take a break & head up to Nevada for a month I think.
But I'll worry about that when it comes.

Keeping busy here...
Mom is not doing well...she sleeps most of the time now, eats irregularly and it's just a matter of time before the Alzheimers claims her. Hospice has been a blessing!
Dad has a colon tumor and they are testing for cancer. It has been a mess thru the holidays trying to get answers and testing completed, seems like noone goes the extra yard anymore...
My heart stopped for 5 seconds and slows for no reason.
The cardiologist changed my meds and scheduled a 3 month follow up... I may need a pacemaker.
I am still fighting for social security, and long term disability thru work (ends in June).
Other than that, Life goes on...I try not to let it get me down and succeed most of the time.
Hope all is well with you and yours =)
