January chat
I hope everyone has a good day!
Jim sounds like you have some good suggestions for your problem. I guess that is why I continue to drive & love my simple 86 F250 4x4 460. Even though it isn't as fast as the diesels for pulling it still gets the job done & maybe cheaper overall. I only wish my F250 was a 78-79 set up as mine is. But no more than I use it for work it is just going to have to be OK.
If anyone is interested, the Arizona Military Vehicle Collectors Club is having their 20th annual Military Vehicle Show this weekend at the Arizona National Guard facility at Papago.
1335 N. 52nd Street, Phoenix (SE corner of 52nd and McDowell) 8 AM to 4 PM Saturday and Sunday.
Swap meet, vehicle displays, entertainment, live auction (no vehicles), food--burgers, dogs, snacks, etc.
Admission is free, although they ask for a modest $5.00 donation for on-site parking. Otherwise, you can park elsewhere and walk in.
AMVCC Papago Military Vehicle Show for more information, directions, etc.
I'll be there both days, mainly in the pavilion around the G-503 booth, or wandering around looking for swap meet items I probably don't need but might not be able to resist.

I talked to Ernie Greene at Sav-on Trans, a very reputable shop here in PHX, and he reports that the converter is a weak point on this trans and recommends a converter that costs around $1000 bucks, about $2800 to do the entire job. This is not new feedback, but surprises me it is coming undone so soon.
Any locals here have similar experience with this particular tranny? Any advice beyond Ernie’s suggestion?
Yours in burned tranny fluid,

Jim

Sooooooooo.....Bill already heard my tale of woe on the phone this afternoon, but I figured I'd vent....uh....I mean share....with the rest of you.
First, a report of the military vehicle show at Papago--good collection of vehicles and swap meet vendors. And two really cool scale models--a 1/15 scale model of the USS Phoenix (SSN-702), and a roughly 40-foot long model of the USS Arizona (BB-39). The Arizona model gets around town at various events, so maybe some of you have seen it before. It was originally built around 1980 and recently restored. It won't be back at the show on Sunday though. And I had forgotten to take my camera.
So that was the show, and then I walked back to my truck....
And noticed I had a phone message from Bill....
And called him while I was standing at my truck....
And while we were talking, I realized some @$$h*l* had hit the driver's side between the rear cab door and the wheel well.
<EXPLETIVE, expletive expletive,>
About two feet worth of scratch and dent on my baby that cost almost three times what my first house cost....
And the <EXPLETIVE expletive>@$$h*l* of course didn't even leave a how do you do, kiss my < >, on the windshield, and no on-site security cameras, so all I know is that it was a blue vehicle....

OK, I'm whining, but it's my five month old baby that cost me almost three times what my first house cost me...
Or about two-thirds of what my first wife cost me...
It's a dent from the diesel drip
back, and the edge of the wheel well is kinked. If it wasn't where I have to see it every time I get in/out of the truck, and every time I fuel, I'd be less pi$$ed and less worried about getting it fixed.
