Just come back from my trip from melbourne to FNQ (far north queensland),with my home built canopy and all my camping gear, farken truck is a animal up hills in 80E,LOL cant get over how she just wanted too GO,on some of the hills i hit over 1200 F ,but only in short bursts overtaking those f**kheads who want to sit on 90kmh then once we get on a overtaking lane they wunna do 110kmh..
Averaged 17 to 18 litres per 100 kms,im happy with that,i average a saving of $35 everytime i fill up the tank, thanks too my mods and DP tuner,it'll pay its self off in no time
...as you can see I have done what I can to keep my EGT's down...
Why does everyone want to keep their EGT low?

Not only is 1200*F a safe to run EGT but maintaining a higher EGT in the range of 1000*F to 1200*F also results in higher efficiently (lower BSFC and higher MPG) for naturally aspirated diesels and for turbo diesels and if anyone's interested in an explanation of the "diesel physics" behind the measured data below just ask.
If you think EGT is high. Check boost levels, what were they. If wastegate isn't preforming correctly to hold boost, the EGT will climb quick. There are some other posts on here that show what others have done to check theirs and I think it corrected their problems. If boost is steady your problemly alright.
Firstly, Luv ya work Gene.
Now my boost levels were only around 8-10psi. I wasnt pushin her hard. Anyways it seems to bog down around 55-60mph up hill. I put me foot down I dont get much more progress other than putting the temps up. I can see from Gene's graphs that you are getting better numbers at higher egt's , but heat is a killer for any metal. Im not to worried about the numbers I was s just getting a census. If these things cant haul *** over the 4 cylinders Japa's then whats the point.
I've held 1100-1250* (staying around 1175*ish) for nearly 4 hours straight pulling my 5th wheel through West Texas. It was over 100* outside. Transmission ran 220* the entire time. I paid attention, but I was comfortable with the temperatures.
I see you have the 38R. Those temps seem just fine to me. I don't think the 80e setting is meant to be towed in too much. Might give an 80T tune a try. I think it might help the EGT's.
I can smack 1500 degrees pretty easy with my Stage II's and stock turbo with no trailer, but it scares the hell out of me. I don't like to do that at all.
I held almost 1200 degrees for almost 2 hours heading over the mountains from eastern oregon to western oregon from hunting. Grossed out almost 19,000 lbs. Fighting a nasty nasty head wind and I have 37" tires with 3:73's. She didn't burn up! This was before the Stage II's though.
