I am going to replace my transmission fluid shortly, and while I have the pan off, I want to check to see if one of my shift solenoids is bad, or just dirty.
I have a CEL for one of them (I don't remember which one it is, but after i reset it, it comes back on when i shift into reverse.) The truck shifts perfectly, so I am suspecting that there may be some dirt or something affecting it. Does someone have a schematic or a picture of the solenoids and/or some advise how to check these?
Truck is a 1998 Navigator, 5.4L Triton, Auto tranny (obviously)
i can't get my truck to the store for a code reader until i get my starter installed. what asked was for info to check any/all of them, while i have the tranny cover off
Randomly dorking around inside something you don't understand and don't have the service procedures for is usually a good way to mess the whole thing up. Leave the pan on the transmission until you get it running and get a proper fault code. Once you have the DTC, use it to follow the proper diagnostic procedure to pinpoint and repair the fault.
