I've never gotten more than 16 months of good service out of wiper blades. I tried some Michelin ones from Costco this last time and are about 8 months old. They are streaking and is very annoying. It's just part of basic maintenance for a vehicle and its not like $35 a year is such a terrible cost. Sunlight deteriorates the rubber and isopropyl alcohol can renew a wiper blade for a little while.
It's like having tires on the wear indicators. Do they still function? Yes but are they ideal for the conditions they were designed? Nope. In Germany you can be fined for having poor wiper blades.
I know they say your supposed to change em once a year, but there is some wipers that do last more then a year, and I think they should last longer then that even.
They can make many other things out of rubber that last longer out in the sunlight, and wipers should be no different!
Well, I can honestly say that these wiper blades didn't have any streaking or anything until about a month ago. Why throw away a good thing just because "someone said so"?? Thats why we have so many full landfills in the world. Someone figured things should be replaced "just because"...
I'm not Mr Greenpeace, but I don't see the point of replacing things that still fully function.
Nathan, your example with tires is a poor one. Try driving in snow or rain with tires that are worn to the wear indicators. They don't do their job worth a heck...unless their only job is keeping the rims from making contact with the road...
