Hey All,
I have a 1994 F150 2wd and I was wondering if there was an inexpencive way of bringing down the rear of the truck 2" or so ( I just want to level it out to the front) any good ideas let me know
Thanks!
I'm with RIKIL... while having the ability to appreciate a good looking automobile in almost any state of repair/disrepair... I just can't wrap my head around lowering a truck, to me it defeats the whole purpose of having one to begin with, but that's just one man's opinion. get the 2in spacers for the front springs and raise it up to match the back if anything
i agree what would you do with a lowered truck? can't tow/haul anything, can't go offroad, have to watch out for speed bumps, there really arn't any benifits to it, i mean even for drag racing you want the back end up about stock height so you can put some big slicks on it and even then it's a TRUCK there isn't enough weight in the rear to make it hook really well (i know some do hook but most don't), same thing for road racing your back end is so light it will slide everewhere
or u could go with hangers but they are more of a pain and more expensive at 100+
either check out djm or beltech
Yes, shackles, easy and cheap and usually works pretty good. You will likely need new shocks tho, as the ones you have now will lose 2" of their compression stroke when you lower the truck - look into the rear shocks for a Police Interceptor (P71) Crown Victoria, us guys with the fullsize cars (Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and Town Car) put in F150 shocks when we jack up the rear of our cars, can't see why you can't put the car shocks in your lowered truck. By the way, lowered trucks are useless - if you lower them right you don't lose any payload, but you gain stability at higher speeds. In your case, watch out the bump stops - you may have to move them from the brackets they are on directly to the frame rail, so you still close to the original suspensio travel.
You can lower the rear the 1 or 2 inches the shackles allow without changing the shocks.
I was thinking about doing it to my truck. I have the lowering shackles. I was thinking of using the 1st hole that allows for about an inch drop. I may not ever do it though.
I would not lift the front unless you want to get new shocks springs and an alignment. It also will not handle as well.
It all depends on the truck and what it is used for though. If you tow or haul anything you won't like your truck to be totally level or the front will be up in the air when you are towing/hauling.
DJM 2in drop shackels...easy install.. The 2wd pick ups sit real hi in the back...I lowerd the back of mine 4in & have 315 60 15 drag radials on it with plenty of room..Lew
Hey All,
Thanks for the reply's! The Shackels sound like the best bet for me. As far as my truck, she pretty much just sits there and really doesnt do to much, I have a big company truck, and my old 94 is just something I like to have cause I dont owe anything for it, and if I want to put my wheeler on it or go out for a cruise, then its there, I dont go off road with it, and as far as an inch or two I am not worried about speed bumps... Its simply a look thing, just wanting to make it level but not completely loose hauling ability if needed, and I would never raise a 2wd, just corny....no offence... thats a great idea about the crown vic rear shocks... when I replace them I will maybe compair how much difference there is...
thanks again guys!!!
Bender, if you're not relocating your bump stops there is no need for replacing the shocks. In your situation (not hauling much of anything) I don't think there's a need for bump stop relocation, so just put the longer shackles in and call it a day.
wats evin cheper then shackles
is free remove the longest leaf in tha spring pack= better ride and 1.5-2.0 inchs lower
cons cant tow as much
it only takes bout an hour and a half and your on your way again

to be very inexpencive. put some weight in the box and wrap a chain around the axle and bolt it to the frame and then take the weight out. this way is free if you steel the chain off a trucker's load at a truck-stop and if you use a come-a-long you can slam it when you park.
Another way, you could pull a leaf out. its not recomended to re use your U-bolts, but, I don't care if you do. I know a guy that used a mono leaf with bags cause he didnt have money at the time for a 4 link.
