Mohle,
In my situation, the truck KBB trade-in value is $25,000. I've found an F250 SD (2011 with 6.2 gasser and 4x4) at my local dealer for $30,850 (non-negotiated, flat internet price). I'm sure I could get out the door for right at 5K because I only pay sales tax on the difference (trade vs new). So, in my situation, it may make sense, and only result in payments for an additional year (about twice the amount of the warranty extension). I couldn'd afford an $84,000 truck! That's where I am anyway.
If you can get a new truck for $5000 difference, go for it. I wasn't knocking you. It's pretty much just a proven fact that keeping a vehicle on the road is more economical than buying a new one every time. There are trade-offs, you have to put up with down time while your used vehicle is being repaired and possible reliability issues, but from a straight money point of view, keeping one is virtually always cheaper. Even in your case, $5000 pays for a lot of repairs. But if you don't need the diesel, then go with the gas unit. You will be happier in the end. The diesels are meant to work. Not using its capabilities is like driving a Freightliner to the 7Eleven to grab a two litre of pop. Plus your not doing the vehicle any favors.
Just got back from the dealer--they sold the truck I wanted. In fact, they were out of gassers. Sign from the SD gods to keep the truck? I will have to travel some to test drive a gasser. One thing I did notice (and don't like) is the "Ford" logo on the front of the new trucks. Crap, that thing has to be as big as NFL football. Kinda ugly to me. Or, at the very least, gaudy.

Replace it with a proper football.
Or, tie a deer across the hood so no one can see it.
Or get one of them big *** doomsday bumpers from texas I did that and it blocked my emblem haha.. But atleast if you go that route, youll be ready for when the zombies invade lmao hahahaha Or if you decide to play bumper cars with a prius
Traveled an hour south and they sold the gasser out too. Had a couple 2010s. The places I've been are selling cars like hotcakes! All said they are extremely busy. Recession?
Get an ODBII gauge. If you monitored your ECT vs EOT you might
have saved yourself the $$$ by taking it in BEFORE it blew
(and the warranty expired) if you observed a large delta
between the 2 temps.
Even now, it's a wise investment. Plus it can MOVE to your next ride!
should you change vehicles.
Got my truck a Scangauge for X-mas, sure enough, I had a 35deg. delta when towing , when I bought her I got the ESP too. This morning I picked her up from the dealer all fixed (EGR cooler, Oil cooler, Degas cap) at no cost to me.
Keep it, get the warranty, and fix it when it breaks. I plan on replacing her at 200k if funds permit, but until then....
At least give the new engines some time to see what failures occur, they should be good but only time will tell.
69cj,
just saw the 173rd Abn in your signature line. Vicenza huh? I was at Bragg during the 80s with the 321st Abn FA. All the way! Thanks for all the advice brother.
I was with the 173rd, 3rd/319th in Viet Nam, 69,70. 82nd @ Bragg,3/504th 68,69.
Nope, its the SD gods tellin ya your gonna have good luck with your 6.0 lmao hahah
Hybrid eater,
You are RIGHT! Made the decision to keep her. No more waffling. I'm a PSD guy. Good or bad. Doesn't mean I won't cry like a baby if it dies next week though.
My Coolant and Oil temps (edge insight) were as follows under these conditions (no towing and truck empty--except wife's big butt).
72 mph highway (72 degrees air temp): It was primarily at 194/205, but would occassionally go to 196/206-207.
stop and go: 190-192/198-202.
Questions:
1. Are these number great, good, normal, an indication of clogging?
2. I understand the delta of 15 degrees signals a problem. But what is at the OTHER end of the spectrum? In other words, what's a really good (normal) delta?
You would have freaked if you saw the shape my 6.0 was when I got it...
Coded like a christmas tree... half of dash malfunction... would stall out at full throttle (like 5mph)... seat look like.. Only the ignition key worked...
Based on advice in here, I would have had ARP, new HG, Oil cooler, EGR delete... just to start...
