i may have access to a 1989 Ford Taurus for parts, its got some nice 6way power seats, what mods would i have to make to put these in my 1982 f150? like, if i bolt them straight to the floor, will they be high enough to see out the windshield? any advice will be appreciated
Those seats out of that Taurus should work fine. Although it would be helpful to swap the seat tracks between those Taurus seats and some truck buckets, because it would make bolting it to the floor alot easier.
I've installed some buckets from a late model lincoln, in mine. But i didn't have the truck bucket tracks... so i had to drill my floor, and still ended up with one crooked seat.
Go for it, makes a world of difference in comfort from that bench to buckets.
I read that, but i had a brain fart. (duh!) so yea you'd have to use the taurus seat tracks for your setup. I had to do this with mine, but i never installed the switches to operate my power controls, in my reg cab, there just wasn't enough room.
Make sure that the seats will physically fit to the floor, and don't lean, and that your seatbelts will slip through the seats and make sure the shoulder belt will reach the clip part of the belt.
Also when you drill out the floors for the seats to bolt down, use some good grade bolts, with washers, and lock nuts. (welding it down would also be a good idea, if you can get it done.) Swapping in seats is a great mod, but you can never be too safe, keeping yourself planted behind the wheel and your passenger safe is always important. (i never got around to bolting my pass seat down all the way, thats why i'm taking mine out.)
Sorry for the rant, but go for it man, it isn't that hard!
Dude, Those Lincon seats look absoultely ridiculously....SWEET. I think that my granddad has some old cadillac seats. Do you think that I could do that coversion too My grandma has a bunch of cats that have been living in the car though They kinda smell funny Do u think that Oxyclean will git rid of teh stank how hard do you think it will be to convert my seats arent power or anthing but if they turn out like those lincon seats i will be happy
They should physically fit inside the cab, but you might have to find different tracks, or something of the like.
I kinda like the lincoln seats too.... I may end up keeping them, after i swap them to some truck spec bucket tracks. I'm sitting waay too close to the roof.
I'll help as much as i can, see if you can get one of those buckets to fit in your truck and post back.
Oxyclean should get them cleaned up a bit, but you'll probably have to add some kind of de-odorizer to them to get the smell out.
I think it shouldnt be too hard to do I'm thinkin about attaching them to some angle iron and then welding them on to the floor. I am worried about the head clearance, but I gess I could just put a moon roof in. You know what I mean??
your right about the oxyclean, but what should i do about all the damn cat hair? Its enough to make a curtains for my truck.
Cat hair huh? what about one of those pet brushes that has a velcro peice on it, so that it collects the cat hair?
I wouldn't worry about putting angle iron down there, the floorpan will be sufficient for holding them in, you'll just have to drill new mounting holes.
Roof clearance is an issue too, if you are taller than average (i'm 6'4.) so if i were ever to get in a wreck, it would break my neck if the truck flipped.
otherwise no real issues.

Man, you guys are ridiculous. It's an old beater truck, not a Lincoln or a luxury car! That's the weirdest mod I've ever heard of! And cat urine and cat hair all over your grandpappy's caddy seats? oxyclean won't do anything to all of that! cat urine is one of the most powerful odors in all the world; it doesn't die or go away without a hellafight. My advice is to go get seats from a junkyard wreck, because they'll smell better than the urine-ponge-buckets that you want to install.
P.S. If you do put them in and have a moonroof, have someone take a picture of your head popping out the moonroof, and post it here so we can all have a chuckle.
What the hell are you talking about smokeblower? This is a very cool mode have you checked out that deperatos gallery? You should be banned from this forum if you do not have anything constructive to add.
As for you aldridi...blah,
You don't know jack crap about cat urine. I have gotten that smell out of plenty of old couches from grandpappy after he passed away. Anyway, what doesnt come out, you get used to it. It's not that bad.
I'm surprised that some of us around here think that my seats are a pretty trick install.
I'm also surprised in the same sentence that my truck and my idea got bashed, no hard feelings here, its your opinion (you know who i'm talking to.)
I know the truck isn't a luxury car, but those seats can be covered so that they do not appear to be lincoln seats, and quite frankly are more comfortable than the OEM bench seat will ever be.
I'm not going to contribute to any bashing whatsoever, thats just my opinion on the matter.
If you like it you like it, and quite frankly i do...
If you don't thats your choice, its all about freedom people.
