Problem with my 01, need advice

Truck ran fine till this morning. Warmed her up for a few mins then hit the high idle for another few till the temp came up. Left work doing 15mph for a mile all good. Hit the highway and was good till 45-50mph then it started to run like ***, wouldn't rev to good, no power, just plain sluggish (oh yeah, engine light came on too). Pulled over and shut her down for a few seconds, fired her back up and the same thing. Switched tunes on my F5 and went back to stock to no avail. Was gonna have her towed but being 30+ miles up the mountain (expensive tow) I decided to limp her home. About 2 miles later the problem just went away and I was fine all the way home in any tune. Truck sat at home for 7 hours, I jumped in a few minutes ago and same problem, engine light on, idle kinda rough, sluggish. Left her sitting and used my lightning instead.

Anybody have any ideas whatz up? Truck has 125K miles. Thanks for any help guyz!!!

First thought is the wiring harness under your valve cover is coming loose. Have you secured that yet? I had the exact same symptoms as you describe and it turned out that I had a problem with #7 injector (armature plate screw was loose). In your case, let's assume the best and all you have is a loose connector under the valve cover.

gchavez, thanks for the reply brother!

What side valve cover? So the harness is under the cover as in you have to pull the valve cover off to get to the harness?

Was it smoking real bad? turbo working extra hard? Sounds like the uhvc's. Pull both valve covers and do the 50c mod. Looks like ya haven't done the foil delete yet neither. Good time to do that,if you like turbo whistle. Hope we helped ya some.

Sorry meant UVCH, dam fingers. 50c mod is when ya take a quarter and trim the top down to the top of Georges head and slip it in the connector so it will stay tight and shouldn't come apart again. Can find pis on Chris's page(F350-6),good pics too. Hope it helps.

Valve cover gaskets are reuseable (so is the gasket on the transmission pan for future reference). While you're under there, make sure the injector hold down bolts and rocker bolts are tight. Injectors bolts are 120 INCH/lbs (10 ft/lbs) and the rocker bolts are 20 ft/lbs

Thanks twags, appreciate the link bro! Crossing my fingers that this is the problem and not something more expensive.

So both sides have this harness that needs to be remedied?

No problem. Yes, you'll need to put one quarter under each valve cover, hence the name "50 cent mod". Its somewhere around $10 if you get clips from ford.

When i did mine i had a injector hold down bolt loose. And one valve cover connector working its way out. And two dead glow plugs.

When i did dads he also had a valve cover connector almost disconnected. Surprised it ran ok for him. It was way out. Also he had Two injector hold down bolts loose. One was almost a full turn.
