EGT probe location #2 ???
i am buying a edge insight monitor for my 2006 f250 that monitors 20 different things and egt is one of the things it monitors, and the one i am buying comes with an egt probe and harness, .......i already have a egt probe in the drivers side exhaust manifold hooked to a auto meter gauge.....i was wanting to know is there another god place to monitor egt? would the exhaust pipe coming out of the turbo be a good location for another exhaust probe? would it be beneficial to have one post turbo and pre turbo? i would like to monitor it in 2 places if its possible, i just dont know where a second good location would be at? i will be tuning this truck with an SCT tuner with matts tunes in the near future, i just got new headgaskets, egr delete, new oil cooler, ARP studs and 4" turbo back straight pipe exhaust, so now i want to monitor this motor closely from now on....... any info is appreciated on this subject, thanks

Pre and Post turbo are usually the two places that I hear most people put EGT probes when they are wanting to monitor 2 readings.
Each does serve a different function, you can actually get by with just one and make allowances for the ~200ºF variance. I personally don't see an exigent need for two probes.

yea i really do not have a need for 2 egt probes, but this device i will be buying comes with all the egt monitor equipment, so i want to go ahead and hook it up, i just need to find out where a different location would be that still gives a good reading?....would post turbo be where the down pipe hooks into the turbo? if i installed it there would there be a 200 degree temp difference between that location and the exhaust manifold location? is there a better place to get a egt reading then these 2 locations?

I don't know if there is a better location then those 2 places, those 2 just tend to be the most discussed. Not in of itself to qualify those the be all end all locations, but I place that I would start first.

if i was to drill a hole in the down pipe right where it exits the turbo to mount the #2 egt probe, how would i mount the probe there? u think if i JB welded the proper size nut on to the downpipe where i drilled the hole, i could just screw the probe coupler into the jb welded nut? u think this would work? or is there a better way for down pipe egt installations?

I've known a few that have installed it that way. I don't know of any issues that they might have had from that. I don't see why that should be a problem, but that isn't my area. There are a lot more creative people then I with regard to welds.

anyone else got any other info on a good location for a second egt probe? is the downpipe right where it exits the turbo the best location for probe #2?

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a second probe. I don't know that it's going to give you that much valuable information.
That being said, the most reasonable place would seem to be the down pipe after the turbo.
THAT being said, I would be leery of using JB Weld without knowing for sure how well it stands up to heat. You can see better than 1000 degree's at that location.
I'm not saying that JB Weld won't stand up to the heat, cause I don't know. I would want to know for sure, though, before I drilled a hole in my down pipe.

I have heard of probes designed for that purpose, being attached in some way to a band clamp. I don't know if anyone makes anything designed to attach a threaded probe that way though.
If you have the resources I don't believe it's unusual to have a nut welded in place for that purpose.
