Granted radiation sickness would be hell, but hopefully you'd have a firearm to do yourself in with before you turn into one giant boil. Glad to have no vehicles involving computers in my rig, and an EMP blast will fry your E4OD, and anything else with an electronic brain.
Glad to learn about the oil in the electrical poles, if it ever comes down to it
'Book of Eli' was FAR from a good movie as far as the Post Apocalyptic genre goes, dig out some oldies but goodies in 'The Roadwarrior', 'A Boy and His Dog', and 'A Quiet Earth'. 'The Road' was also a hugely disappointing movie since I read the book first.
If the SHTF that IDI is gonna be the least of my worries and will prolly be the first thing I ditch. Burns too much fuel and I doubt I will be needing to haul much heavy stuff. Instead I will save my fuel oil resourses for my John Deere tractor to grow food. For transportation I will use my Samari and 4 wheeler. Much easier to hide a Samari, 30 plus mpg's and I can make alcahol fuel out of grass if I need to. Not nearly as likely to get shot over grass. LOL
theres no way i would ditch my idi, it would be the best for getting supplies, no samurai or car could haul the supplies one could fetch with a heavier truck. If the shtf, it will not be a problem of fuel shortages, just which place it comes from and how to get it home. You would need the idi to carry its own fuel and still have room for hauling supplies. I would take over a walmart supercenter and be good, plenty of supplies and oil, the car parts would come from the auto parts stores and i would raid them in the first day. My son and i joke about this all the time with the pending Zombie Apocalypse he is always talking about hehehe. Only bad part of canada is the lack of firearms in the walmart or any store for that matter. would need something for killing idiots and believe me there are lots around here hehehe.

Brilliant! You and every other weekend warrior in the world have just come up with the exact same plan. If you wait until the SHTF to start gathering supplies, you have officially waited too damn long to start.
every weekend warrior doesnt have an idi and can even get to a walmart. The emp will toast most everyones vehicle but with a few wire splices and a screw driver i can eliminate the need for the ignition altogether. This region would be friggin toast so it doesnt really matter. seattle area would be ground 0.1 because in the everett/kitsap area there happens to be the third largest storage area for active nuclear weapons. We would be ashes and dust in no time lol. As for the idea of taking a walmart over and waiting to the last minute, well lets just say i am not one of those y2k dip****s that is ready for world war three. If it happens it will take the world by surprise just like 9/11 and everything else. No one will be ready, it wont be like the good old days of war where people even claim that they did it, it will be an anonymous attack and then later claimed but it will be too late. Buttons will be pressed, people will die in the millions and we will start anew. How many times has it happened in the past? Too many to count.
thats y i picked my truck in the frist place it big and mean if theres a car in my way i could either ram push or go over it there good on fuel and u could work them hard they can pull or hual better much ever thing anything u hook them two and cam run them off all most anything
In such a situation, my IDI would be my second choice, my dodge, which while it has an ECM(voltage regulator is built in, cruise, grid heaters and a/c are controlled by it) requires no electrical power at all to run, it's cable shut down. All it needs to start is a hill or a push.
yea thats the b*tch of it. I "think" it might be ok cus its shielded by the metal of the truck, but im not entirely sure how those bombs work......
All nuclear weapons emit electro magnetic pulses upon detonation. the EM pulse is the first thing emitted before the shock wave hits. There are non nuclear EMP weapons which were used to good effect during both Gulf wars. Command and control centers were rendered ineffective and lives were probably saved by the inability of the enemy to launch missiles with biological warheads. Some of those American cruise missiles you watched on the news channels flying around the streets of Baghdad are thought to have been emitting EM pulses.
When we did our NBC training we were told that the average life expectancy of a soldier in the event of a full thermo nuclear attack in theater would be between 4 and 30 minutes. We decided that in the event of such an event we would remove our masks and administer large doses of Morphine into each other.
I think some EM weapons can affect electrical circuits and wiring but if we can get around the FSS on our IP's then our engines would be unstoppable.
