Starter, two hole mount vs three hole mount - interchangeable?
My starter has quit engaging, mostly spins. I have already removed it and it is a two bolt style.
I am going to try my local rebuilder first monday, but is the two hole mount and three hole mount style starters fit interchangeable?
Do i need to stay with the two bolt if the rebuilder cannot help me?
Advance has new starters, not rebuilt, for around $200 plus 20% off if purchased online.
I have an '01 engine in my '00. I used the same starter in both engines and it is a 3 hole, but I only used 2 bolts (it was that way when I got it). I don't see why it would not work either way.
I decided to do another ride by of the rebuilder on my way to Advance, he is still in business, just opens a little later than he used to. His is a small, two man shop. I talked with him briefly and left my starter.
This is a comment i made to another post. Did copy paste here.
My starter failed Christmas day. It is at my local rebuilders shop being repaired. It is a two bolt OSGR starter.
I almost purchased the three bolt Remy 99402 from Advance because it looks like a direct drive (which i like and prefer). They're running a 20% off online special. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web..._1122829492___
Any thoughts to share?

I have always had good luck with my local guy. Any problems and I talk directly with the guy that rebuilt it. So far I have had nothing to take back. Got to be better than some china rebuilder that never has any contact with the product after it leaves the country.
